AARP California is looking for an intern to join the state team, working directly with staff, volunteer leaders, and community partners. An internship with AARP California offers opportunities for innovation, creativity, professional growth, and working with a diverse team and audiences. We seek interns who share our passion for improving local communities through advocacy, outreach, education, and volunteer service. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of Summer 2025, with an option to continue throughout the year.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Communications Team with integrated communications tactics, which may include social media, media relations, advertising, and developing internal and external meeting or event materials
- Develop media materials and write reports (e.g., key messages, talking points, press releases, media advisories, social media copy and graphics, etc.)
- Maintain various functions that support the work of the Communications Team (e.g., updating media lists, social media toolkits, and work templates)
- Planning and writing social media posts, other digital content, and a monthly volunteer newsletter
- Assist with virtual and / or in-person community engagement activities, including prepping event materials, run-throughs with speakers, and working with event leads
- Research issues related to state and local initiatives that could help inform strategies for advocacy and communications
- Lead or contribute to special projects as assigned

Additional Requirements
Hybrid Work Environment
AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
