Job Description:
Education:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited school
- Admission to State Bar in at least one State
Work Experiences:
- At least 3-5 years of labor and employment experience with a major law firm or an in-house legal department
- Experience with a retail company with at least $1 billion in revenue in a corporate environment preferred
- Experience providing advice and counsel and handling litigation related to all aspects of employment law, including compliance with federal, state and local laws concerning discrimination, harassment, wage and hour matters, compensation, recruiting, immigration, restrictive covenants, workers’ compensation retaliation, ERISA, HIPAA, wrongful discharge and other related torts and benefits law
- Significant experience providing advice and counsel on labor law issues, including union avoidance, unfair labor practices, picketing, boycotts and injunctions
- Ability to provide sound and practical legal advice, with proven success and experience with balancing legal risk with business objectives
- Prior experience evaluating and assessing risk

Responsibilities:
- Advise Human Resources Department and other business clients regarding compliance with all requirements in the area of labor, employment and benefits.
- Partner with Human Resources Department and other business clients regarding Company policies affecting the Company’s relationships with its employees, vendors, customers and other third parties.
- Develop strong partnership with executive management, senior management from other corporate departments, distribution centers, stores and their vendors
- Represent all Academy departments and locations on enterprise-level issues both internally and externally
- Partner with business clients to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully and maintain confidentiality
- Develop standardized processes and procedures for the organization in identified practice area(s)
- Develop and manage policies and procedures regarding labor and employment issues
- Review, recommend and manage outside counsel to represent Academy in legal matters
- Manage legal staff, including paralegals and administrative assistants
- Assist with annual budget submissions for identified practice area(s)
- Operate within constraints of the financial budget for assigned practice area(s)
- Identify and develop projects spanning other corporate departments, distribution centers, stores and their vendors
- Identify and implement growth strategies and process improvements across multiple areas
- Develop a thorough understanding of Academy’s policies, procedures and safety rules
- Duties may change; team members may be required to perform other duties as assigned
