Position: Estimator
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of construction processes, strong analytical skills, and the ability to prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for a variety of construction projects. Experience with federal contracts is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation:
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates, focusing on subcontractor relationships.
- Required experience with Federal RFPs, RFQs, and TXDOT projects.
- Maintain a database of historical costs and unit prices to support accurate estimating.
Bid Preparation:
- Lead the preparation and submission of competitive bids and proposals.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including federal, local, and state contacts.
- Review and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive pricing.
- Travel to conduct site visits and marketing events.
Project Analysis:
- Identify and mitigate potential risks and discrepancies in project RFPs and subcontractor quotes.
- Complete risk assessments of projects with contingency planning and financial analysis.
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and cost analysis for various construction projects.
- Evaluate project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Track and analyze win ratios.
Client Interaction:
- Communicate with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to clarify project requirements and address any questions or concerns.
- Present estimates and proposals to clients in a clear and professional manner.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and industry partners.
Team Leadership:
- Manage subcontractors of different specialties.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior estimators and other team members.
- Manage construction documentation (RFI, RFQs, submittals, specifications, sub agreements).
- Interpret and analyze blueprints, redlines, and as-built drawings.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies in construction estimating.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the estimating process.
- Work effectively under strict deadlines and project schedules.
- Break down the scope of work across different trades for accurate estimation.
- Travel may be required for this position.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on federal construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, ProEst, PlanSwift).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Experience with RSmeans, Building Connected, and Bluebeam is a plus.
- Preferably experienced with federal contract requirements and compliance.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Negotiation skills are a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
