What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Sprinkler Project Estimator position at Access Fire Protection, Inc.?
JOB SUMMARY: The Fire Sprinkler Project Estimator is responsible for estimating, planning, and organizing to secure profitable fire sprinkler work. The Project Estimator will ensure that all estimates, bids and proposals are accurate and delivered in a timely manner. The Project Estimator will track the status of each estimate, bid and proposal to ensure that all follow-up expectations are met, and customers’ questions are addressed appropriately. The position will be responsible for establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with customers, contractors, architects and designers.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Responsible for the preparation of project estimates and developing the pricing for competitive bids in the pursuit of fire sprinkler projects
2. Layout of drawings, understand hydraulic calculations, identify material, equipment, and price related items to submit a professional proposal.
3. Assess hazard classifications and necessary protection needed for proper sprinkler coverage within the proposal
4. Prepare preliminary plans, estimates and proposals in accordance with company policy and present packages to customers in a professional and timely manner.
5. Establish, build and maintain strong business relationships with customers, contractors, architects and designers to ensure a robust pipeline of potential business opportunities
6. Implements a tracking system that will allow for the effective tracking and reporting on the status of all estimate, bid and proposal submissions
7. Represent the company at industry meetings, customer visits and networking, some of which may occur outside normal business hours.
8. Assess post-completion costs versus bid to identify opportunities for bid improvement, cost reductions and other considerations for future project estimates
9. Expected to meet or exceed the annual quota assigned during the budgeting process.
10. Maintain organized project files: monitor generated order management reports, assemble and present bids and proposals to contractors/customers, generate submittal packages, and manage special projects as needed. Performs additional duties as required
11. Work with purchasing department to ensure current material pricing is up to date for use in estimating.
12. Assists on issues of purchasing and inventory and other related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
· Ability to review blueprints, specifications and contracts to assess project requirements and costs
· Knowledge of fire sprinkler materials, fixtures and components is required
· Possess valid Florida Driver’s License with a clean DMV record in accordance with company policy
· Knowledge and experience related to the design, installation, and service of fire sprinkler systems.
· NICET certification (preferred).
· Computer Skills – proficient in Microsoft
· Strong telephone customer service skills
· Strong oral and written English communication skills
· Prioritization and management of multiple tasks
· Dependable, accurate and detail oriented
· Be a self-starter who takes initiative and anticipates needs
· Ability to coordinate and work in a team environment
· Highly motivated and proactive
