A global manufacturer is seeking a highly skilled Japanese-English Technical Translator & Interpreter with experience in the industrial manufacturing industry, ideally in automotive manufacturing. The ideal candidate will be responsible for translating technical documents, interpreting in meetings and on the production site, and ensuring smooth communication between Japanese and English-speaking teams. This role requires technical expertise, cultural awareness, and strong linguistic skills to support cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This is 100% onsite work, a full-time, non-exempt position with a comprehensive benefits package.
Key Responsibilities - Japanese Technical Translator & Interpreter
- Translate technical documents, manuals, specifications, reports, and emails from Japanese to English and English to Japanese.
- Ensure accurate and contextually correct translations of engineering drawings, quality reports, production manuals, and regulatory documents.
- Support on-site interpretation for technical discussions, troubleshooting, and training sessions.
- Provide consecutive interpretation for meetings, conferences, and discussions in Japanese and English and facilitate communication between engineers, suppliers, production teams, executives and the company’s headquarters.
- Assist in preparing bilingual presentations, meeting minutes, and project documentation.
- Support Japanese expatriates and visitors by bridging cultural and language barriers.
Qualifications & Requirements - Japanese Technical Translator & Interpreter
- Fluent in Japanese (JLPT N1 or equivalent) and English (business/professional level).
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Translation / Interpretation, Engineering, Linguistics, or a related field preferred.
- Translation / Interpretation Experience in the industrial manufacturing industry, ideally automotive manufacturing
- Experience in consecutive interpretation in a professional and industrial setting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multinational environment.
- This position includes working in a manufacturing and/or warehousing work environment. While performing the duties of this job you may be required to intermittently sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands to handle or feel parts/equipment, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend at the waist, talk and hear. You may also be required to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with Japanese automotive companies (OEMs, Tier 1, or Tier 2 suppliers).
- Understanding of automotive technical terminology in both languages.
- Experience in simultaneous interpretation in a professional and industrial setting.
