POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:
This role is responsible for overseeing Mosquito Adulticide crews within the Ada County Mosquito Abatement District, ensuring crews follow established procedures to carry out daily mosquito control operations effectively.
- Support the training and supervision of field technicians.
- Allocate pesticides to the appropriate employees through the inventory control system.
- Meet periodically with the Division Coordinator to review operational performance.
- Follow product label instructions and help train field personnel accordingly.
- Utilize GPS and mobile computer systems, providing guidance to staff on their use, and applying basic computer skills to troubleshoot issues.
- Ensure compliance with department policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements related to pesticide applications.
- Maintain responsibilities as a field technician to meet crew objectives.
- Assist field crews with problem-solving or unique application scenarios.
- Ensure the timely completion of work orders.
- Assist employees in other Mosquito departments during peak seasons.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Contribute to departmental development and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Coordinate the weekly washing and maintenance of fleet vehicles.
- Conduct routine vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Oversee the completion of complex repairs when needed.
- Calibrate pesticide spray equipment and ensure safe usage of application equipment.
- Mix pesticides as required.
- Help maintain and recommend upgrades or repairs for equipment.
- Operate a variety of vehicles, surveillance, and mechanical equipment.
- Support other department divisions during off-season as needed.
- Perform other related duties as necessary.
- Minimum of 36 college credits in biological science or a related field, or 2 years of relevant field or lab experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 1 year of experience in team leadership or supervision is preferred.
- Must obtain a Professional Applicator’s license with the following categories: Applicator Core Competency and Public Health within one month of hire
;. - Knowledge of mosquito adulticide products, mosquito habitat, and pesticide application techniques
;. - Knowledge of mosquito abatement practices and procedures
; and. - Knowledge of the life cycle of mosquito species in Idaho.
- Proficiency in performing basic mathematical calculations.
- Familiarity with relevant federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Legible handwriting and strong record-keeping abilities.
- Competence in reading maps, navigating, operating GPS devices, and using personal computer systems.
- Strong communication skills to interact with the public and coworkers in-person or over the phone.
- Ability to follow and understand complex verbal and written instructions, including reading and interpreting SDS sheets and product labels.
- Ability to foster cooperative working relationships with managers and colleagues.
- Capacity to work independently in both office and field settings, and effectively with peers and the public.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a good driving record in accordance with Ada County vehicle policy.
- Must be available to work different shifts as needed; this position is primarily a night shift during the summer months, day shift during remainder of year.
- Able to obtain a Professional Applicator’s license.
- This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
- The nature of the work may require the employee to be in the field for long periods of time under various weather conditions;
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.;
- May work with hazardous materials, all-terrain vehicles, and occasionally must negotiate fences, hazardous steep terrain with rough, rocky or wet surfaces;
- May be exposed to dogs, farm animals, snakes and biting and stinging insects.
