Position Summary:
Adams State University Campus Recreation and Wellness within the Department of Co-Curricular Recreation and Engagement (Student Life) - is seeking a full-time Coordinator for Fitness and Wellness. This position is responsible for collaborating with students, fitness instructors, and other campus recreation staff to develop and manage a new quality and comprehensive fitness and wellness program. The Coordinator is responsible for the direction, development, and management of all group fitness, informal recreation, and wellness programming for Campus Recreation and Wellness. This position reports to the Director Co-Curricular Recreation and Engagement (CoRE).Responsibilities
Management and Supervision
Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a staff of group fitness instructors, wellness staff, and informal recreation staff
Mentor, and provide professional to student instructors and graduate assistants
Conduct evaluations and monitor performance of employees of student employees
Implement in-service trainings for fitness leadership team
Develop and implement learning outcomes and conduct routine assessments of programming and student staff employees
Assist in the management of fitness and wellness budget including day to day transactions
Oversee the daily operations of the Rex Fitness and Wellness Center
Maintain professional certifications relevant to job responsibilities
Programming
Develop and manage all aspects of the fitness program including developing and implementing a full menu of services to include, but not limited to: Group exercise, Mind and Body, Personal Training, Fitness Assessment, healthy eating, or related wellness initiatives
Develop, market, and manage special events and initiatives to promote active healthy lifestyles
Create and oversee a student instructor and personal trainer development program
Create and maintain collaborations with university departments and initiatives
Utilize software for program registrations, membership management, and reporting
Assess campus satisfaction and effectiveness of fitness programs
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree - in sports management, recreation administration, physical education, kinesiology/exercise science, or a related field
Experience
At least two years professional-experience managing fitness and/or wellness programs
Professional understanding of concepts of fitness and recreational activities and health education, as well as staff and student development
Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology and fitness principles for implementing a complete fitness program
Demonstrable ability to do the following
To treat others with respect, civility, and courtesy and to work honestly, effectively, and collegiality with employees, students, and the community. This includes the ability to use appropriate conflict management skills to effectively manage any disagreement that might arise or to bring the disagreement to management for assistance in productive resolution when the situation requires.
Demonstrated a commitment to, and relevant ability successfully advocating for diversity and values of diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in related field
At least 4 years of experience in collegiate fitness and wellness program
Experience with facility management
Minimum of one national fitness certification – (AFAA, ACE, NSCA, or ACSM).
Preferred experience in Recreational Sports department or collegiate fitness program
Training and experience with teaching a variety of fitness class formats such as zumba, spin, core, HIIT, cardio dance, pilates, and yoga
Demonstrable ability to do the following
Oversee and mentor student employees and fitness instructors
Work independently under general supervision
Work as a part of a team to reach set goals
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Generate and follow verbal and written instructions
Provide excellent customer service
Willingness to work early mornings, late evenings and weekends
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $38,412-$43,692.
