Job Title: Medical Billing and Accounts Receivable Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical DME Billing and Accounts Receivable Specialist to join our healthcare team. This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring timely and accurate billing for medical services and follow up on outstanding patient accounts to ensure payments are processed efficiently. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of medical billing procedures, insurance protocols, and the ability to handle sensitive financial data with discretion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Medical Billing:
  • Accurately prepare and submit claims to insurance companies, government agencies (e.g., Medicare/Medicaid), and patients.
  • Review patient charts and documents to ensure correct coding and billing according to industry standards.
  • Follow up with insurance companies regarding unpaid or denied claims, resolve discrepancies, and appeal as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of all billing transactions and update the status of claims regularly.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and payer requirements.
  • Accounts Receivable Management:
  • Monitor and track aging accounts to ensure timely collection of payments from insurance companies and patients.
  • Communicate with patients and insurance companies to resolve outstanding balances, discrepancies, and payment issues.
  • Provide account status reports to management, highlighting overdue balances and payment trends.
  • Work closely with the team to identify and address any billing errors or payment discrepancies.
  • Customer Service:
  • Address and resolve patient billing inquiries and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Provide patients with clear, concise information regarding their financial responsibility, payment options, and billing statements as needed.
  • Data Management and Reporting:
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate billing records in the practice management system.
  • Ensure all patient billing data is accurate and complete to minimize errors and rework.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or healthcare-related field preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and accounts receivable management, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Familiarity with healthcare billing software and electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Prefer knowledge of medical terminology, insurance coding, and payer processes.
  • Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex data.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Knowledge of medical billing software (e.g., Epic, Opie, Nymbl, Medisoft) is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications:
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) a plus but not required.
  • Previous experience in an outpatient or inpatient setting is a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time, with typical office hours 8am to 4:30pm.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $23.25 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
