Job Details:
Title: Payroll and Benefits Supervisor
Location: Charlotte, NC
Onsite Hours: Flexible start times between 7-9 AM, working an 8-hour day. Consistent schedule required.
Salary: $70,000 - $80,000
Reports to: Benefits Manager
Must haves:
- 5 years of payroll experience with at least 2 years of experience using UKG.
- Strong proficiency in a major integrated payroll/benefits system (ideally UKG).
- In-depth knowledge of payroll processes, taxation (US and Canada), benefits administration, and compliance regulations.
- Very strong Excel skills (will be tested).
- Experience in benefit implementations and data integration between the payroll system and benefit carriers.
- Proven ability to lead and direct a team to complete projects and tasks.
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Accounting knowledge a plus.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex payroll and benefits information to various audiences.
- Must be proactive, organized, responsive, results-oriented, and trustworthy.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and company information. High level of honesty and integrity.
- Positive and enthusiastic attitude with a strong desire to learn and grow.
- Excellent computer skills, including experience with various benefit vendor portals.
- High School Diploma or GED required. BA or BS Degree (Business or Accounting) a plus.
- Experience processing payroll for both US and Canadian employees.
System/software:
- Proficiency in a major integrated payroll/benefits system (ideally UKG).
- Advanced Excel skills.

Day to day responsibilities:
- Mentor and guide supporting payroll specialists, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all payroll processing for US and Canada.
- Manage all aspects of payroll processing using a major integrated system (ideally UKG), including employee compensation, tax withholdings, deductions, benefits, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local regulations, as well as company policies.
- Review and analyze payroll reports to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist with the integration of payroll and benefits data into HRIS and accounting systems.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of year-end reports (T4s and W-2s) and other regulatory filings. Complete various census and government reporting requirements.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll and benefit-related inquiries from employees and management.
- Maintain a working knowledge of payroll best practices, industry trends, and changes in tax laws.
- Perform duties of moderate to advanced complexity, judgment, decision-making, and scope in the application and execution of pay and benefit programs.
- Supervise and assign responsibilities to payroll specialist and analyst roles.
- Process garnishments, taxes, and leaves of absence.
- Assist in the coordination and execution of the annual employee benefits open enrollment.
- Oversee and complete internal and external audits accurately and timely.
- Perform other duties related to payroll or benefits as requested by Management.
