What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adoption Counselor position at Adoption Choice, Inc.?
Due to the growing needs of our company, we are looking for a Part Time Adoption Counselor. The successful candidate will provide pre and post adoption services to potential adoptive families as well as birth parent counseling services for domestic and international adoptions as well as agency outreach and program development.
What an Adoption Counselor will do
- Provides both international and domestic adoption home studies, parent education, and post-placement services
- Supervises placements of children including maintenance of appropriate records and conducts post-placement visits
- Prepares all necessary documents and coordinates the adoption process in accordance with all state and international guidelines, as needed
- Communicates with adoptive individuals as well as birth parents and maintains contact throughout the process of each adoption
- Provides support, counseling, consultation, and adoption information as needed
- Conducts informational meetings for prospective adoptive families
- Participates in program development and outreach
- Other duties may be assigned
What an Adoption Counselor needs to have
- Master’s Degree in Social Work or related Degree preferred, however a licensed bachelor’s level social worker/counselor with experience in social work and/or adoption would also be considered
- Knowledge of state and county resources
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail oriented, flexible, self-motivated and goal/deadline oriented
- Works well independently and as part of a team
- Ability to establish rapport with children and families as well as working effectively within the agency and the social work community at large

Schedule is varied and will include weekdays, weeknights and some weekends with on-call occasionally. Must be flexible as hours are client driven.
Candidates should have a minimum Bachelor’s Degreee in Social Work or related field. Master’s Degree preferred. Experience in case management, adoption or foster care desired.
