Position Title: Membership Associate


Primary Responsibilities

The Membership Associate will:

  • Directly support and advance Advance CTE’s member engagement and outreach activities:
    • Develop, maintain, and grow relationships with Advance CTE's members
    • Respond to member requests around membership supports and research requests  
    • Coordinate with other staff to produce or contribute to newsletters, analyses, social media/web content, presentations, articles, etc. to ensure the Advance CTE membership is up-to-date on relevant research that impacts or affects CTE
    • Support the planning of in-person and virtual professional learning opportunities for state members
    • Attend and support Advance CTE conferences and meetings
    • Support the onboarding of New State Directors, including owning “Get to Know” blogs and participating in New State Director Institute activities 
    • Assist with execution of member engagement workstream (evaluating surveys from events, state team diversity initiatives, supporting efforts to engage low engagement states, supporting state engagement tracking)
    • Assist with maintenance of member platform to ensure content is updated, relevant, and timely in order to harness the organization’s goal that the platform is utilized by Advance CTE’s membership
    • Assist with membership audit and membership dues renewal processes
  • Support Advance CTE’s Postsecondary State CTE Leaders Fellowship Program
    • Provide ongoing project coordination, including executing project plans and timelines and building and maintaining knowledge management systems for tracking, data aggregation and analysis and communicating initiative-level and Fellow-level progress
    • Develop resources and materials for Advance CTE’s broader membership that elevate the work of and lessons learned from each of the Fellowship program's cohorts
    • Participate and support, as needed, in conference presentations, alumni network activities, cohort meetings and workshops 
    • Develop and maintain supportive relationships with Fellows, coaches, alumni members, and advisory/selection committee members and seek to actively engage in all groups in membership activities
    • Assist with scheduling and planning Fellowship activities to include calendar management, agenda development, presentations, and sustained communications
  • Outreach & Engagement
    • Develop an ongoing understanding of the CTE environment and the role of Advance CTE in serving the CTE community
    • Develop, maintain and grow partnerships with national organizations in support of Advance CTE's policy initiatives

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Advance CTE values both education and work experiences that demonstrate the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position and estimates that a minimum of two to five years of related experience is necessary to carry out the duties of this position.   • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a wide variety of people, including but not limited to, Board members, staff, government officials, State CTE Directors, key stakeholders, community partners
  • Ability to think critically, use good problem solving judgment, and take complex ideas and present them in a style for a layperson’s understanding
  • Ability to work independently, accurately and meet deadlines and simultaneously manage multiple projects/tasks
  • Knowledge of and competency in equity, and racial equity in particular, with openness to increase content knowledge and skills in this area to support the organization’s ongoing work in this space
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, including skilled written report preparation for research, policy and lay audiences, and public speaking with a style appropriate to the audience
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
  • Knowledgeable of standard office equipment, as well as proficient with computer software programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Hold a valid driver’s license within the commuting areas, have access to a reliable car with current insurance or access to a reliable/flexible transportation source

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of/experience in the field of education or workforce development
  • Experience working with a nonprofit, membership organization and/or with states

Supervision Received: The Membership Associate will work under the direction of the Director of Member Engagement & Professional Learning 

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Location: Advance CTE’s office is located in the Washington, D.C. metro area (Silver Spring, MD). This position can be either an in-office position or a fully remote position filled by an employee located outside of the Washington, D.C. area. Advance CTE does not have a legal or organizational presence in the following states/territories: Alaska, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, any of the U.S. territories and therefore is not open to accepting applications from individuals who reside in any of these locations and are not willing to relocate. If willing to relocate, please indicate in your cover letter.

Travel Required: Up to 10% of the employee’s time may be spent on non-local travel to carry out the duties of the position, including participation in two in-person “home weeks” and two in-person annual conferences per year.
