Overview:
The Kolo Bike Camp Program Director oversees and implements the day-to-day operations of the Kolo Flow & Kiddie Camps at the Adventure Center of Asheville. The Program Director is responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and lessons with their counselors to provide a quality program for campers. Program Directors are also responsible for the supervision of Kolo Flow & Kiddie Camp Counselors, and working with various other departments at the Adventure Center of Asheville to ensure campers reach their intended outcomes. Season/Dates of Employment:
Our day camp runs from June 11th - August 22nd, 2025, Monday through Friday. Staff training is the days prior, June 9th&10th, with additional paid training and planning pre-season. While the ideal candidate has availability for the entire season, applicants not able to commit to all weeks are still considered and encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver and evaluate a camp program that meets the needs and interests of youth and the camps target markets to ensure their delivery in a safe and quality manner.
- Remain current with information on the developmental needs of youth and apply them in the camp setting.
- Implement crisis and risk management procedures in conjunction with other departments at the Adventure Center of Asheville
- Design and ensure delivery of programs and activities appropriate to the camper population.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate seasonal staff, including assisting hiring if appropriate and available.
- Maintain camp and program specific buildings and equipment, and advise on the purchase of new materials when necessary.
- Oversee the daily operation of day camp including program, camper care and behavior management, and health care.
- Fills in camp counselor roles as needed.
- Assists the Camp Director in staff scheduling, including communicating any needs or issues that need to be addressed
- Leads campers in lessons to teach mountain biking skills such as skill progression, trail riding, warm-ups, etc. and other age appropriate activities and crafts
- Be alert to campers and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems; provide basic first aid and discuss with the Camp Director when appropriate.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience with mountain biking and working with young kids is preferred, but not necessary.
- Be at least 21 years old
- Be eligible to work in the United States
- Be able to pass a criminal background check
- Must be in good physical condition for outdoor activities, and to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency situation (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
- Participate in facilitating staff training when possible
- Be comfortable speaking in front of large groups and managing groups of campers and staff
- Have a current certification in First Aid and CPR, or ability to obtain before the first day of work
- Able to ride a bike off road, and to work and in all weather conditions
- Able to stand for long periods of time, and must be able to lift 50lbs
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
