Summary of Principal Responsibilities:
The American Friends Service Committee GSO (General Secretary’s Office) internship offers an opportunity to gain experience in nonprofit governance and event planning and management while supporting AFSC’s work to create social justice and peace. The AFSC is a faith-based, international non-governmental organization, operating in 17 countries and headquartered in Philadelphia.
The intern will support the team tasked with administration for AFSC’s Board of Directors and other governance bodies and its staff leadership team. Over 3-5 months, the intern will collaborate with AFSC staff and volunteers to identify potential meeting locations, update and maintain governance member records, coordinate event logistics, and participate actively in a support role at the AFSC Corporation’s annual meeting in Philadelphia April 24-27, 2025.

- Develop technical skills in Salesforce, Microsoft SharePoint and more.
- Build an understanding of global nonprofit governance practices and policies.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Key responsibilities of the events and admin intern include the following:
- Organize contact and related information regarding governance volunteers and prospective volunteers, maintaining confidentiality as appropriate.
- Research prospective locations for AFSC’s Board of Directors’ meetings in the US: location, cost, quality, meals and amenities requirements.
- Perform data entry using Salesforce and Microsoft SharePoint.
- Participate actively in a support role at the annual Corporation meeting April 24-27, 2025, including greeting and assisting 60 guests, staff, and vendors
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with Quaker beliefs, values and business practices.
- Enrollment in a college, university, high school or professional training program.
- Interest in nonprofit governance, event planning and administration.
- Strong research, analytical, organizational and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines independently.
- Proficiency with some or all the following: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint; Salesforce, Zoom, and a demonstrated ability to learn new technological programs quickly.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
Compensation: $20 per hour, up to 5-10 hours, Non-Exempt. There are no medical, dental, or life insurance benefits, short-term or long-term insurance benefits with this position. AFSC does participate in unemployment, worker’s compensation, and social security.
