JOB SUMMARY The Payroll Analyst III is responsible for overseeing complex payroll processing, audits, and compliance management across multiple states. This position requires advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to manage intricate payroll issues independently. The individual will provide strategic insights into payroll processing, serve as a mentor to junior analysts, and collaborate closely with senior leadership to ensure process improvements, system optimizations, and the highest level of payroll accuracy. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee Complex Payroll Operations: Lead payroll processing for multi-state employees, ensuring compliance with federal and state tax regulations. Audit & Reconciliation: Manage and perform complex payroll audits and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy across systems and reports. Resolve Payroll Discrepancies: Proactively address and resolve complex payroll issues, working independently to find solutions and minimize errors. Advanced Payroll Analysis & Reporting: Provide senior management with comprehensive payroll analysis, identifying trends, inefficiencies, and areas for process enhancement. Mentorship & Training: Lead and mentor junior payroll analysts, providing guidance and training on payroll best practices and compliance requirements. Collaboration Across Teams: Work closely with HR, Finance, and Benefits teams to ensure seamless payroll processing, issue resolution, and compliance. Process & System Optimization: Identify opportunities for system improvements, including automation and software enhancements to drive efficiency and reduce errors. Complex Employee Inquiries: Act as the primary point of contact for resolving complex payroll-related employee inquiries and issues. Other Duties: Support special projects, initiatives, and ongoing efforts to improve the overall efficiency of the payroll department. COMPETENCIES Expertise in managing complex payroll scenarios, including troubleshooting and resolving discrepancies. Proven ability to mentor and develop junior payroll staff, sharing industry best practices and fostering skill development. Deep knowledge of multi-state payroll tax laws and compliance regulations. Strong communication skills for articulating complex payroll issues to senior leadership and employees. Ability to analyze payroll data and reports to drive strategic decision-making and system improvements. Advanced organizational, problem-solving, and project management capabilities. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 5 years of payroll processing experience, including at least 2 years in a senior role with supervisory or leadership responsibilities. Expertise in payroll systems (Workday preferred). In-depth knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and critical-thinking skills. Preferred: CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) is highly desired.
