Our mission is to serve our members, the profession of architecture, and the community by promoting design excellence, professional development, education, and environmental and social equity. We are committed to promoting advocacy, providing member services, and fostering collaboration within the building industry. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead and manage the organization in the execution of its mission and strategic goals.Position OverviewThe Executive Director (ED) will serve as the chief executive officer of AIA Santa Barbara, providing leadership and management for the organization. The ED will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and key stakeholders to ensure the achievement of the organization’s mission and vision. The ideal candidate will have a passion for architecture, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of success in nonprofit management, fundraising, and advocacy.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Strategy
- Provide strategic vision and leadership to the organization, working with the Board and staff to develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan.
- Act as a key representative and spokesperson for the organization, effectively communicating its mission, programs, and impact to external audiences.
- Foster a positive organizational culture, promoting teamwork, collaboration, and accountability across the organization.
- Oversee the daily operations of the component, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of services and programs.Governance and Board Relations
- Support the Board of Directors in fulfilling its governance responsibilities, including providing accurate, timely information and guidance.
- Regularly update the Board on the organization’s performance, financial health, and key strategic initiatives.
- Assist in the recruitment and orientation of new Board members.
- Ensure the implementation of Board policies and strategic goals.Financial Management and Fundraising
- Oversee the development and management of the organization’s budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
- Ensure the financial health of the organization by managing fundraising activities, sponsorships, membership dues, and other revenue streams.
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies to achieve revenue targets and expand the organization’s financial base.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including maintaining 501(c)(6) status and preparing for annual audits.Programs and Membership
- Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services that align with the mission and meet the needs of members.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including members, industry leaders, government agencies, and other nonprofit organizations.
- Identify opportunities for member engagement, advocacy, and partnerships to enhance the organization’s impact.Qualifications
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Ideally, management experience in a nonprofit or association environment, with a focus on 501(c)(6) organizations.
- Experience in fundraising, financial management, and budget oversight.
- Understanding of governance structures and Board relations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
- Ability to lead, inspire, and motivate staff and volunteers.
- Experience in public relations, and external relations.
- The Executive Director will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, often requiring flexibility in working hours to meet the needs of the organization and its stakeholders.
- Some travel may be required for meetings, conferences, and events.
