The Assistant Manager, Warehouse oversees the planning, organizing, and oversight of the Distribution and Volunteer Center operations. This position oversees the staff in the Warehouse and Volunteer Center to ensure appropriate delegation of work and compliance with all related standard operating procedures. The Assistant Manager will ensure smooth and consistent operations so that all food distributed to Network Partners is safe, stored appropriately, and made ready for Partner pick up. This position safeguards and promotes the Foodbank’s commitment to food safety and compliance; assists in the supervision of all daily operations management, food safety and quality control, inventory management, facility management, and partner relations. This position is a training position to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to assume the role of Warehouse Manager at the Foodbank’s Stark County Campus. This position requires a high degree of integrity, leadership, and urgency in all related matters; accurately records and maintains metrics; fully supports the departmental operations; ensures operational efficiency and productivity and maintains the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank standards. This position reports directly to the Canton Warehouse Manager. Shift M-F, 8am-4pm. Salary Range $55,000-$57,000
 
 
Job Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Supervision
a. Supervise the Warehouse and Volunteer Center teams.
b. Counsel, lead and coach through day-to-day tactical strategies, connecting to the broader annual operating plan and strategic plan to accomplish target pounds distributed, production projects completed, and income generated for the organization.
 c. Proactively address food safety compliance in accordance with Feeding America, American Institute of Baking, USDA, FDA, and ODA throughout the facility.
d. Collaborate with the Warehouse Manager and/or Director, Operations on all behavioral and performance management opportunities for all team members to provide support and guidance for growth and development.
2. Warehouse Operations
a. Ensure Warehouse Operations (inventory placement, order picks, and distribution) are appropriately staffed and in constant production to achieve monthly and annual pounds and
financial goals.
 
b. Coach the Warehouse Staff on daily Partner product distribution, maintain accurate inventory, overseeing inventory distribution of MarketPlace products, and ensuring food safety and freshness of all MarketPlace products (highly perishable, short dates) and all picked orders in the staging area.
 
c. Coach Volunteer Center staff on daily productivity and project coordination for the sorting, inspection and repacking of salvage in support of organizational priorities and goals. Ensures food safety and freshness of all repacked products and reports any issues directly to the Distribution Office.
 
d. Manage, report and address any performance gaps or system needs to the Director, Operations.
 
3. Volunteer Center Management
a. Overall management of the CSFP program. storing and receiving of all products.
 
b. Collaborate with the Akron Distribution Office and the Canton Distribution Office regarding all CSFP activities, including transforming, reporting and disposals.
 
c. Cycle counts are conducted where the entire inventory is counted monthly.
 
d. Ensure the operation of the Volunteer Center is kept at a high standard giving our volunteers a positive experience.
 
e. Collaborate with Akron leadership on completed products being transferred to Akron.
4. Inventory Management
a. Collaborate with the team to manage the diligence required of inventory management, specifically cycle counts, inventory adjustments and reporting, to strengthen preparation for year-end physical inventory.
 
b. Manage and collaborate with Operational Leadership for year-end physical inventory planning, implementation and reporting.
 
c. Partner with the Senior Manager, Food and Safety Operations on the product recall process and mock recall planning and documentation.
 
d. Notify the Senior Manager, Food and Safety Operations upon any suspicion of unsafe food conditions to determine appropriate action.
 
e. Ensure staff compliance with Feeding America, American Institute of Baking, USDA, FDA and ODA regulations regarding food safety, storage and distribution.
 
5. Facilities and Operations Management and Administration
a. Advise and report the repair and maintenance of warehouse property and/or equipment to the Maintenance person and the Director of Operations to seek approval for work order.
 
b. Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Food and Safety Operations and Director of Operations regarding facility improvements needed to maintain compliance with all governing food regulations.
 
c. Initiate, record, and report all daily, weekly and monthly safety, power equipment, and facility maintenance schedules.
 
d. Ensure Daily cleaning tasks and trash/dispo requirements are met.
 
 
6. Network Partner and Volunteer Relations
a. Interact with Network Partners and volunteers to ensure superior customer service experience in collaboration with the Distribution Office Manager, Volunteer & Guest Experience Supervisor, and the Network Partners and Programs (NPP) team.
b. Collaborate with the NPP team to identify any operational improvements based off Network Partner feedback to ensure superior customer service experience.
 c. Maintain and strengthen relationships with Network Partners during daily distribution to understand who they are, what they do and how they service their community to best serve their needs at the Foodbank.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Required Qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities, competencies):
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience highly preferred.
  • Five to seven years of progressive leadership and operational experience, preferably in warehouse or logistics management of food.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Authentic and passionate advocate for Feeding People and Fighting Hunger.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with a broad scope of Network Partners and collaborating businesses and organizations involved in the day-to-day operations of the Foodbank.
  • Must be able to work independently and anticipate the reporting and communication needs of Operations Senior Leadership.
  • Flexibility to coordinate special projects and Foodbank events, anticipating issues and taking proactive initiative to resolve to ensure a positive Foodbank experience.
  • Ability to operate forklifts in compliance with OSHA requirements and lift, carry and maneuver equipment daily.
  • Ability to coach, manage and motivate staff toward goal achievement and a positive culture.
  • Detail-oriented, customer service focused, highly organized and results driven.
  • Excellent interpersonal and professional skills; ability to successfully work with and lead a wide variety of individuals.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment which requires strong project management and time management skills and the ability to remain calm and collected under pressure.
  • Ability to work hours in accordance with meeting Foodbank demands, which could include hours beyond normal operations and weekends.
  • Available during off-hours for communications of all kinds.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Warehouse Inventory Management and Barcode system, Primarius experience preferred.
  • Must be able to follow all AIB International, Feeding America, Food and Drug Administration, United States Department of Agriculture, Occupational Safety Hazard Administration, and Foodbank (standard operating procedures and employee handbook) safety regulations.
