BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· High School diploma or GED equivalent required
· Possess Valid Alabama Interpreter Renewable Permit upon employment.
· Knowledge of federal and state laws related to interpreting.
· Valid driver’s license, an automobile for use on the job, and liability insurance in effect
· Must possess a minimum entry sign language proficiency level of ADVANCED according to AIDB evaluation system (SLPI/SCPI) upon hire.
· Must provide documentation of sign language proficiency evaluation (SCPI available through AIDB).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree
· Alabama Interpreter Licensure upon employment
· RID recognized certification
· One (1) year successful work experience in interpreting for Deaf and Deaf/Blind.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Provide interpreting services for students, staff, and the community as needed
- A proficiency level of ADVANCED PLUS must be obtained within thirty-six (36) months of employment according to the AIDB evaluation system.
- Provide sign language training to staff and students
- Must have a working knowledge of the Alabama Interpreter Licensure Process.
- Must know and adhere to Interpreter Code of Ethics
- Mentor ASD Students regarding obtaining and appropriate utilization of interpreters.
- Participate in or schedule interpreters for educational meetings (i.e. IEP meetings, Behavior Intervention meetings, parent/student discipline meetings, staff meetings, etc.) as assigned.
- Maintain state and/or national certification in interpreting as per Alabama Interpreter Licensure Board.
- Must have basic computer knowledge and be willing to obtain up-to-date technology/information regarding computers/equipment (including remote interpreting).
- Must possess good interpersonal skills and work cooperatively with AIDB staff, students, and the community.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends (options of being paid as contract interpreter after regular work hours as per state law and AIDB Policies).
- Must have knowledge of and be sensitive to Deaf Culture.
- Must be willing to attend ongoing professional development, attend workshops, conferences and other staff development activities.
- Complete AIDB online training on Deafness, Low Vision, DeafBlindness, and Multiple Disabilities within 12 months of hire.
- Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."

SALARY: $47,948 - $74,468 Scale PI Rank PI Renewable Permit
$53,040 - $84,864 Scale PI Rank L1 Licensed Alabama Interpreter
$63,648 - $95,472 Scale PI Rank M1 Master’s in Interpreting
260 Days; Direct deposit is required; bi-monthly payroll
This position is eligible for the following annual incentives.
