The Capacity Building Specialist is a member of the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault’s Capacity Building Team. The Capacity Building Team (CBT) is responsible for developing and delivering training and assistance to enhance the performance of organizations providing direct services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking. The Capacity Building Specialist works with the CBT to identify organizational challenges, develop targeted solutions, provide training and technical assistance, and evaluate the effectiveness of the assistance. This position can be based anywhere in Alaska where the internet and an airport are accessible. The position requires approximately 60% in-state and national travel.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Under limited supervision, the Capacity Building Specialist will:

  • Assist in the assessment of needs and gaps for training courses to be offered by the Capacity Building team.
  • Provide expertise in the area of direct services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and dating violence including intersectionality of the issue and operations of emergency housing.
  • Conduct necessary research to develop and deliver applicable professional development material
  • Stay abreast of trends and tools in topics addressed by the Capacity Building Team with a focus on client centered services.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of advocate skill development topics
  • Consult, design, develop, and deliver presentations in person and virtually
  • Provide direct technical assistant to member programs in areas identified as the positions expertise.
  • Keep all training curricula up-to-date and identify applicable best practices using surveys and other available data.
  • Mentor other instructors in the subject matter, content, and course delivery techniques
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentorship to individuals, departments, or agencies
  • Maintain expertise in utilizing online platforms for disseminating information and hosting webinars.
  • Assist in Maintaining an updated list of training contacts through member programs and statewide partners in Coalition Manager or other tracking mechanism
  • Ensure documentation, tracking, and reporting of all training and T/A through Coalition Manager
  • Assist in preparation of grants reports as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Working, Mental Health, or a closely related field or 5 years of work and/or life experience related to the position.
  • 3 years prior experience working in an agency providing direct services to survivors of crime (must be in addition to 5 years of work/life experience if no degree)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills working with diverse groups
  • Experience in mentoring, coaching, and instructing adult learners
  • Commitment to eliminating personal and societal violence in the lives of all Alaskans.
  • Willingness to adhere to the ANDVSA’s philosophy
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check

Preferred skills and experience:

  • 2 years Demonstrated experience working with curriculum development
  • 2 experience providing training in adult learning environments using different delivery methods. (virtual, webinars, and in-person)
  • 3 years experience working specifically with domestic violence survivors or 3 years experience providing training to direct service providers on working with survivors.
