Key Responsibilities::
Estimating & Cost Analysis::
- Assist with Cost Estimation::
Support the Estimator team in preparing cost estimates for architectural metal projects, including labor, materials, and equipment. - Basic Takeoffs & Measurements::
Perform quantity takeoffs and assist in calculating material and labor needs for projects. Ensure accuracy in measurements and data collection. - Data Collection & Pricing::
Research material and labor costs and compile updated pricing from vendors and suppliers to ensure estimates are current. - Bid Preparation Support::
Assist in the preparation of bid documents, ensuring that all project requirements and costs are documented and organized for submission.
- Team Collaboration::
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and senior estimators to gather project data and ensure alignment with the project scope and specifications. - Vendor & Supplier Coordination::
Support the team by obtaining vendor and supplier quotes and developing relationships with key suppliers. - Risk Analysis Assistance::
Aid the team in assessing project risks by reviewing specifications and market trends, contributing to strategies to mitigate costs and maximize efficiency.
- Maintain Estimate Documentation::
Keep detailed records of cost estimates, calculations, and notes, ensuring all data is organized and accessible for future reference. - Cost Comparison Reports::
Support the Chief Estimator in compiling reports comparing different cost scenarios. Assist in presenting findings to project teams and management. - Post-Estimate Review Support::
Assist in reviewing estimates after project award to ensure alignment with actual costs and track any variances for future improvement.
- Stay Updated on Market Trends::
Follow industry developments, material costs, and labor rates to support the preparation of accurate and competitive estimates. - Professional Development::
Actively participate in training sessions and development opportunities to improve estimating skills, software proficiency, and cost analysis techniques.
Qualifications::
Education & Experience::
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (preferred).
- 0-2 years of experience in estimating, construction, or related roles, ideally within the architectural metalwork or construction industry.
- Basic Estimating & Cost Analysis Skills::
Some knowledge of cost estimating principles and an eagerness to learn and develop expertise. - Attention to Detail::
Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to work with project specifications, drawings, and cost data. - Communication & Teamwork::
Effective verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative mindset to work with internal teams and vendors. - Organizational Skills::
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workloads, and meet deadlines. - Technical Proficiency::
Basic proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- OSHA certification (10-hour or 30-hour).
- Estimating software training or coursework (e.g., RSMeans).
