Position Summary:
A Trainee is a part-time employee working directly under a project coordinator. The trainee must provide a flexible schedule and willingness to learn new skills in the event they may be tasked with a variety of jobs. This position shall provide the trainee with real-world experience along with multiple skills to progress in their field of study. This position is part of a GIS team that conducts QC on stormwater lines and points as part of the MSQ2 program. We examine each stormwater point asset (manholes, inlets, etc..) and line assets (pipes, ditches, etc...) and ensure that they are correct and connected to the stormwater network. We check attributes to ensure the field crews entered the proper connections, pipe size, diameter, etc. Additionally, we correct any errors that field workers failed to catch. Finally, we have other tasks such as giving unique IDs to the lines and points & other requests from the engineering department. This position requires the employee to be very meticulous in checking each asset and it requires a high level of organization as we record all changes into documents in case they need to be examined or reverted at a later date. Also, it would be highly beneficial, but not required, if the student is able to read construction, site, and drainage plans as we often need to refer to construction documents to verify the asset layout is correct.
