POSITION: Varsity Football Head Coach

LOCATION: Alma High School

REPORTS TO: Steve Humm, Athletic Director (6-12)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Degree/Certification

· Applicants must possess a high school diploma. A college degree and teaching license is preferred.

· Coaching and/or playing experience at the high school and/or college level is required. Coordinator and/or head coaching experience is preferred.

· Applicants must possess or have ability to earn CPR/AED. Meet requirements for background check and fingerprinting.

Job Requirements, Knowledge, and Skills

· Able to build personal and professional relationships with administrators, teachers, coaches, student-athletes, parents and community members.

· Prepares for and coordinates practices and events; maintains inventories and supervises the utilization of equipment; encourages player development at all levels; makes recommendations to the Athletic Director

· Follows the rules and polices of Alma Public Schools, the TVC, and the MHSAA.

· Completes all MHSAA requirements.

· Attends clinics, seminars, and in-service programs in order to improve coaching skills and to stay current with new trends in coaching, training, conditioning, and safety procedures.

· Organize, schedule and supervise practice sessions.

· Regularly inspect equipment and facilities to ensure the safety of the student-athlete.

· Responsible for reporting scores and disseminating team information for publicity purposes.

· Participate in pre and post season meetings with the Athletic Director. The post-season meeting will serve as an evaluation conference.

· Delegate responsibilities to the assistant coaches as appropriate.

· Work to develop continuity between the community and school programs, including building a strong youth program.

· Maintain appropriate supervision of the program at all times (locker rooms, practices, events, bus rides, etc.) Supervises any and all space utilized by athletes while they are present.

· Maintains proper field maintenance in order to ensure practices and games can be held. Work alongside the maintenance department and Athletic Director to ensure the field is maintained properly and regularly, including in the off-season.

· Encourages young people to participate in sports and other co-curricular athletics other than their own but does not attempt to influence the specific sport or activity.

· Establish and utilize a system of communication to athletes and parents that will include explanations of program policies, awards, procedures, goals, and schedules.
