Job Summary:
The Human Resources Director is a senior leadership role responsible for directing and overseeing all human resources functions across Alter Behavioral Health’s facilities. This position provides strategic guidance to the HR team and executive leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Key responsibilities include overseeing employee relations, driving performance management initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, administering benefits and payroll, and fostering a culture of engagement and professional development. The HR Director will lead a team of HR professionals, serving as a mentor and resource while acting as the primary liaison between facility staff and the Corporate Office on HR-related matters.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the CEO, provides strategic oversight and daily leadership of the Human Resources department, managing a team responsible for recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, payroll, and employee relations.
- Develops and implements HR strategies to support organizational growth, employee engagement, and retention across an organization of 100 employees.
- Ensures compliance with CA HR laws, Joint Commission, DHCS, and DSS standards, and prepares the organization for related surveys and audits.
- Partners with leadership to identify, address, and resolve complex employee performance and engagement challenges, providing expert guidance on disciplinary actions, terminations, and conflict resolution.
- Oversees the accurate maintenance of personnel records, HR systems, and reporting functions, delivering actionable insights to the CEO and Leadership Team.
- Coordinates and approves payroll processes at the local level, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Serves as the primary HR liaison between Alter Behavioral Health facilities and the Corporate Office, driving HR-related projects and initiatives.
- Champions a positive, inclusive organizational culture by designing and implementing comprehensive employee growth plans, career pathways, and professional development programs that empower staff to achieve their full potential, enhance job satisfaction, and align individual goals with the company’s mission and long-term success.
- Mentors and develops the HR team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional excellence.
- Organizes employee activities, in-services, and training programs to enhance staff development and morale.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Master’s degree preferred. Must hold a current HRCI (PHR/SPHR) or SHRM (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) certification.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with at least three (3) years in a leadership role overseeing an HR team.
- In-depth knowledge of CA HR laws and federal employment regulations, with proven expertise in benefits administration, employee relations, payroll oversight, and performance management.
- Must have extensive experience managing HR functions for an organization with 100 employees.
- A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a healthcare or behavioral healthcare setting is highly preferred, with exposure to Joint Commission, DHCS, and DSS standards.
- Valid California Driver’s License required.
- Must pass a LiveScan criminal background check as required by licensing authorities.
- CPR & First Aid Certification required.

- Maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations, including DHCS, DSS, and Joint Commission standards.
- Follow company policies on safety, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
- Participate in audits, training, and continuous quality improvement efforts.

- Salary: $125,000/Year
