Human Resources Generalist
Location: Sioux Falls, SD
On behalf of one of our clients, we are looking for an experienced Human Resources Generalist to join a state-wide, non-profit organization. What you will do
As an HR Generalist, you will work alongside the Vice President of Human Resources to perform a variety of core HR functions including benefit administration, employee relations, compliance and leave management, talent acquisition, training, and general administrative support.
Key Responsibilities
Benefits Administration:
- Facilitate semi-monthly benefits meetings for new or newly benefits-eligible employees.
- Verify enrollment, assist with required forms, and ensure compliance with recordkeeping activities.
Employee Relations:
- Address employee concerns and conduct employee relations investigations.
- Provide guidance on policy interpretation, ensure compliance with employment laws, and facilitate mediation between employees and leadership to resolve disputes.
Leave of Absence Management:
- Serve as the primary HR contact for managing leave of absence processes, including generating required paperwork, maintaining leave tracking, and ensuring compliance with FMLA and statutory requirements.
- Process time entries for employees on leave, handle short-term disability documentation, and communicate with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth process.
Talent Acquisition:
- Collaborate with hiring managers to understand program needs and required competencies for job openings.
- Manage internal and external job postings through platforms such as ADP, HireClick, and Handshake.
- Partner with program leadership to attend career fairs and coordinate job boost requests.
Administrative Support:
- Prepare mailings to vendors, employees, and applicants, and provide HR materials to program leaders.
- Support various administrative tasks and complete ad-hoc projects as assigned.
Employee Support:
- Serve as a resource for employees on HR-related topics, responding promptly and effectively to inquiries.
- Address employment-related inquiries, escalating complex or sensitive matters to the Vice President of Human Resources as needed.
Policy & Compliance:
- Assist with the development, revision, and communication of HR policies and procedures.
- Generate and review compliance reports such as ACA, OSHA, and EEO.
- Monitor employee immunization records to meet medical interpretation service requirements.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws, recommending best practices as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an HR Generalist/HR Business Partner or similar role is required
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and/or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential(s) preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge of employee relations and federal and state employment laws
- Familiar with worker’s compensation, benefits and leave administration.

- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, manage multiple assignments simultaneously, and apply sound logic in planning and prioritizing tasks.
- Apply critical thinking, utilize available resources, and follow documented instructions to independently complete assigned tasks/projects.
- Proficient in Office applications; Work, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Experience utilizing HRIS/ATS platforms; ADP preferred.
Compensation: $62,000-66,000 DOE
