This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Advising/Student Life Associate - Moore County Campus who will be all-in on our mission and who will provide academic and career guidance to students at the Moore County Campus, assisting them in navigating their education and career pathways. This role also includes coordinating student life events and activities to foster engagement, leadership, and a sense of community on campus. The ideal candidate is student-focused, organized, and passionate about fostering student success through advising and extracurricular involvement.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor’s Degree.

Preferred: Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Two (2) years of experience in in academic advising, counseling, student services, or a related field.

Preferred: Experience working in a public-school setting and/or higher education environment.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one advising to students regarding degree requirements, career pathways, transfer opportunities, and employment prospects.
  • Assist students in navigating the registration process using AC software, ensuring they enroll in the correct courses.
  • Monitor student progress, respond to retention alert notifications, and provide interventions to improve student persistence and success.
  • Collaborate with department chairs to increase student completion, graduation, and transfer rates by evaluating and refining education and degree plans.
  • Offer support and guidance to students on financial aid processes, scholarship opportunities, and academic resources.
  • Organize, promote, and oversee student life activities, leadership programs, and campus events to foster a positive and dynamic student experience.
  • Act as the faculty sponsor for the Moore County Ambassadors, providing leadership development and service-learning opportunities.
  • Serve as a liaison between student organizations and club sponsors, assisting with conflict resolution, event planning, and leadership development.
  • Coordinate student recruitment and retention initiatives, including outreach programs and student engagement activities.
  • Plan and facilitate new student orientation sessions to introduce students to campus resources, policies, and opportunities.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and supervision of a comprehensive student activities program that aligns with AC’s mission and core values.
  • Recruit, train, and oversee student leaders, including Student Government Association (SGA) Executive Board members and New Student Orientation Leaders.
  • Develop and deliver leadership training and professional development workshops for student leaders and club sponsors.
  • Serve as the Budget Manager for student activity fees, ensuring proper allocation and oversight of funds for student events and organizations.
  • Maintain timely and accurate communication with the Advising Director and department chair regarding advising, registration, and student life initiatives.
  • Participate in cross-training initiatives within the department, including QUEST and JBS programs.
  • Attend college meetings, training sessions, and professional development programs to stay updated on best practices in advising and student engagement.
  • Perform other work-related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and learning management systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Knowledge of academic advising principles, student retention strategies, and student development theories.
  • Experience with student engagement programming, leadership development, and event coordination.
  • Ability to assess student needs and provide appropriate guidance and support.
  • Active listening skills and the ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • High level of professionalism, adaptability, and problem-solving abilities.

Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.

Pay grade 11 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies.

Working Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines) and in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and Business Objects.
