Laboratory Director (ONSITE-Aliso Viejo, CA)
Job Overview:
The Laboratory Technical Director is the highest ranking operational technical director of the laboratory and serves as a clinical voice and operational mind in cross-departmental workgroup settings across the organization. This role responds to and supplies necessary data, content, and input to key internal stakeholders, such as those in Clinical Operations, Commercial, Marketing, Medical Affairs, PMO, Quality, and R&D teams. Additional functions include results interpretation, variant assessment, report sign out for different clinical specialties on the product menu, and technical and clinical support regarding test results for internal staff and ordering clinicians.
The Laboratory Technical Director role is equivalent to that of a CLIA technical director and performs the responsibilities delegated by the CLIA Laboratory Director. This position requires ABMGG-board certification, or equivalent, as well as a CGMBS license and NY COQ.
Essential Functions:
- Liaison between Lab and Quality Teams
- Representative of the Lab in monthly Lab Directors and Quality meetings
- Representative of the Lab in ClinDx meetings
- Representative of the Lab in Quality Audits
- Engage with lab/accessioning to establish IQCP for processes
- Ensure QER and CAPA creation and completion with lab/accessioning
- Establish a regular Quality meeting with the lab and accessioning to ensure accountability
- Ensure implementation of changes are following CAP/CLIA guidelines
- Contribute to CGMBS training curriculum
- Ensure appropriate QC metrics and thresholds are established
- Collaborate to establish drift and response thresholds with appropriate teams
- Answer Lab 911 questions
- Answer or advise on lab processing questions (control failures)
- Collaborate with appropriate teams and assist in troubleshooting strategies
- Collaborate with appropriate teams for continuous improvement
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree from an accredited institution in a field relating to genetics
- Board certification from the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG), or equivalent
- Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) license from the California Department of Public Health
- Optional California Medical License in lieu of CGMBS
