What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scientist II-Hybrid, Aliso Viejo, CA position at Ambry Genetics Corporation?
- Lead the development of new tests with existing or novel technologies, e.g. Next Generation Sequencing, PCR, qPCR, Sanger sequencing, microarray, etc.
- Supervise and coordinate projects with R&D team members and employees from other departments.
- Assist in troubleshooting problems in the laboratory. Devise solutions to overcome technical issues.
- Research and assess new technologies, software, reagents, and robotics for potential implementation in new assays or for budgetary savings for existing tests.
- Perform data analyses and create data visualizations for internal reports and publications. Serve as first author for publications.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ph.D. in molecular biology, biomedical sciences, cellular biology, or related field and 4 years of relevant work experience after acquiring a PhD
- Strong knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, and assay development
- Strong background in oncology or other fields covered by Ambry diagnostic tests
- Capable of excelling within a team environment
- Capable of assigned workload and additional projects with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively, maintain a high level of organization, and to prioritize efficiently
- Extensive molecular and cellular biology skills demonstrated through multiple first author publications
- Proficient with a broad range of techniques, such as PCR, nucleic acid isolation, cell culture, Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing, microscopy, and data acquisition and analysis
- Ability to read and interpret documents, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively one-on-one and in group settings with clients, vendors, and employees of the organization
- Strong computer skills
- Proficient in Word, Excel, primer design, sequencing software, and other software programs used by Ambry
- Strong understanding of next generation sequencing technologies and their clinical applications in the oncology space a plus
- Experience performing Next Generation Sequencing based workflows and understanding the underlying molecular biology strongly preferred
- Background developing diagnostic Next Generation Sequencing based assays in the oncology and cardiology fields a plus
- Background interpreting bioinformatics analyses of NGS datasets for guiding assay development decisions highly desired

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
