What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Personnel position at Amergis?
Program Overview
The 7-day program operates from Monday to Friday, 8am to 3pm.
Scheduled one-on-one support is provided for older females requiring hand-over-hand assistance and younger males approximately 21 years old.
In addition, group-based openings are available.
Certifications in CMT, DSP, and MANDT training are preferred if held.
Job Summary:
The Direct Support Personnel (DSP) plays a crucial role in assisting individuals with intellectual disabilities or mental health challenges to develop interpersonal skills and daily living activities in home, community, or residential settings.
The DSP works directly with the resident, providing support for activities of daily living and adaptive skills, and follows the guidance outlined in the individual's service plan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides training/assistance to assigned individuals in interpersonal skills and daily living activities, aligning with the outcomes and goals in their support plan under the direct supervision of the Team Leader, Program Coordinator, or Program Director.
- Reports any changes in status to the Team Leader, Program Coordinator, or Program Director.
- Documents care accurately according to company policies and procedures, submitting documentation on a timely basis while adhering to client and Amergis policy and procedures at all times.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary team conferences and in-services as requested.
- Offers therapeutic support in daily activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned or necessary.
- Accompanies residents to scheduled activities within and outside the facility/home.
- Contributes to revisions of individual service plans as requested by the client, team leader, or program coordinator.
- Assists with admissions, discharges, and transferring of residents.
- Supports residents with routine household chores and other ADLs to promote independence.
- Assists with training new staff if applicable.
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or its equivalent.
- Compliance with relevant professional standards of practice.
- Participation and completion of Amergis Competency program when applicable.
- Current CPR certification if required.
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
- Current Health Certificate (per contract or state regulation).
- Meets all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to the job site.
- Understands patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
- Ability to effectively communicate information to and from appropriate individuals, including supervisors, coworkers, clients, via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
- Computer proficiency required.
- At least 18 years old.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks.
