What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sign Language Interpreter position at Amergis?
Amergis Staffing is seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. The successful candidate will provide direct interpreting services for a student who is deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring effective communication within the classroom and school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 sign language interpretation for a student in various educational settings, including classrooms, assemblies, and extracurricular activities.
Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, peers, and other school staff.
Adapt interpreting methods to match the student’s language needs and preferences.
Support the student’s understanding of curriculum content and classroom instructions.
Collaborate with teachers and special education staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of interpreting.
Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
Certification from a recognized interpreting program (e.g., RID, NIC).
Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
