Reports To: SVP Retail Banking Officer

Position Status: Full Time, Exempt 

 

Job Summary: An American Bank Branch Manager oversees the day-to-day functionality of the branch. They lead a team of employees through active support that facilitates an efficient, healthy, and knowledgeable workplace that values strong professional relationships with customers. They also participate lending and financial strategy development of their branch through a unique understanding of customers and community environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Branch Manager is responsible for efficient, effective management of a full-service branch office, ensuring that established policies and procedures are followed, and delegating some of the day-to-day operations to other personnel in order to be available to make business calls and to represent the bank at civic and service club functions. The primary duties of a Branch Manager are:

  • Communicates with employees regarding business goals, objectives, and organization performance. Assigns individual and team work goals and performance expectations, gives employees feedback and coaching about performance progress or issues, rewards and/or recognizes employees for performance results.
  • Reviews job performance and makes authoritative recommendations with regard to hiring and salary and, when necessary, discipline and discharge of subordinate branch personnel.
  • Conducts regular meetings to keep staff informed and resolve problems.
  • Provides prompt, quality service to all customers within the acceptable time limits.
  • Sells all products ethically, based upon the needs of the customer and within the parameters established by American Bank.
  • Develops new business through establishing an extensive calling program and by participating in outside service organizations.
  • Understand and speak knowledgably regarding bank products including all electronic offerings, cash management, mobile banking, IntraFi deposit products, merchant services and credit cards
  • Tracks and reports sales calls and loans in progress weekly.
  • Drives business development goals as set by Senior Management annually.
  •  Makes effective use of various sources of financial information (i.e. operating statements, spreadsheets, etc.), establishes and meets realistic budget goals based on sound cost analysis, and takes action to control costs while maintaining high quality performance.
  • Assists loan team with developing and managing large and/or major commercial loan accounts to meet growth objectives. Interviews loan applicants, gathers and evaluates financial and related data to establish creditworthiness, establishes and renegotiates credit terms where necessary, and monitors customers’ financial condition and repayment progress.
  • Approves loans up to lending authority limits and serves as a contact officer on loans above this limit. Develops material for and makes loan presentations to President when required.
  • Reviews commercial loans developed by other commercial loan officers for compliance with lending objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Maintains accounts and relationships in portfolio to ensure quality, identify and minimize potential losses in portfolio and ensure compliance with American Bank’s policies.
  • Makes regular business development calls to solicit new business or improve services to existing customers. Joins area service clubs and organizations and represents the bank at functions and meetings.
  • Demonstrates skills, behaviors and attitudes consistent with the vision, values and beliefs of American Bank, presents a professional image that others wish to emulate, models high performing levels of motivation, performance and personal integrity.
  • Ensures that the branch is open and ready to conduct business each business day.
  • Delegates various operations duties to other personnel but assumes overall administrative responsibility for operating the branch.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of retail branch staff.
  • Ensures the general maintenance of the branch, including the walkways are clear of ice and snow for the safety and security of customers, employees, and branch assets.
  • Ensures that all security procedures are followed strictly.
  • Understands organizational and business behavior, the American Bank organization, its mission, beliefs, strategy, structure, products, climate, etc. Maintains an awareness of the business environment in which American Bank functions.
  • Oversees and ensures daily compliance with regulatory laws applicable to the functions within their departments.
  • Satisfactorily completes all required bank training.
  • Other duties as designated by management.


Education and Experience:

  1. Required
    •  High school diploma or GED, or equivalent diploma.
    • 5-7 years retail banking experience.
    • 3-5 years supervisory experience.
  2. Preferred
    • Previous experience with Jack Henry core solutions and related products including Xperience, Synergy, 4|Sight, Vertex Teller, NetTeller, Onboard Deposits, iPay and ProfitStars.
    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Accredited ACH Professional and Certified Treasury Professional certifications.

 

Competencies:

  •  Strong, well-developed interpersonal skills to deal effectively with staff and conduct business development calls.
  •  High level of analytical skills to conduct initial commercial loan analyses and monitor the loan's progress in consideration of market trends, credit/interest rates, economic conditions, and other factors. 
  •  Thorough knowledge of branch operations to coordinate the daily functioning of the branch and to resolve employee and customer problems. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  •  Direct reports: Livingston Assistant Branch Manager (1) and VP Commercial Lender (1)
  •  Indirect Reports: Livingston Retail Staff (6)

 

Working Conditions:

  • Work environment is indoors in a clean atmosphere with normal noise levels.
  • Ability to work under time constraints and pressure is required.
  • Exposed to a potentially hazardous condition – robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the risk.
  • Normal hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00AM – 5:00 PM and as needed during Branch Operating hours of 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Critical sensory abilities are seeing, hearing/listening, touching, and speaking.
  • Physical dexterity requirements include operating general office equipment such as telephone, computer, calculator, photocopier, and postage machine. Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Mental effort requirements include reading, writing, basic arithmetic, mathematics, visualizing conclusions, analyzing data, searching for solutions, creating methodologies, conducting research, and managing resources.
  • Physical requirements include standing for long periods when providing customer service, sitting, walking and must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. waist high and 20 lbs. shoulder high.


Travel Requirements:

  • I understand that even though my primary work assignment will be in my main branch; I agree to go to any other location requested by management. I understand that such temporary re-assignment will require the use of my personal vehicle. If I am requested to spend the entire day at a non-primary location, American Bank will pay for my time spent traveling which is inclusive from the time I leave my home to the time I return to my home.  In addition, any time that I use my personal vehicle in such travel, I understand that American Bank will reimburse my mileage at the current designated IRS mileage reimbursement rate.
