Job Summary:
The Human Resources Director, reporting directly to the President, oversees and drives American Furniture Warehouse’s HR strategy, operations, and policies. This role involves developing and implementing human resources programs to support business goals, fostering a positive work culture, and ensuring compliance with labor laws. The HR Director will lead talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, training and development, and succession planning. They will serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership and will work closely with department heads to address workforce needs and improve overall organizational effectiveness.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Serve as a link between management and employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering contracts and helping resolve work-related problems.
- Advise leaders on organizational policy in all areas of human resources.
- Analyze statistical data and reports to identify and determine causes of personnel problems and develop recommendations for improvement of organization's personnel policies and practices.
- Provide current and prospective employees with information about policies, job duties, working conditions, wages, opportunities for promotion, and employee benefits.
- Plan, organize, direct, control, coordinate the personnel, training, and employee relations activities.
- Study legislation, case decisions, and industry information to assess and plan HR actions and activities.
- Contract with vendors to provide Human Resource related services.
- Develop or administer special projects as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Compensation Package:
$89,000-$100,000 annually
Supervision Given and Received:
This position reports to the President and oversees a department of 10-12 HR professionals in the disciplines of general HR, employee relations, talent management, compensation, benefits, and training and development.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Experience leading others, including motivating, developing, and directing people successfully
- Extensive knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, negotiation, and personnel information systems.
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources, ideally within a retail and/or distribution setting.
- Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and prevailing local statutes; and the ability to apply legal principles to protect AFW and its employees.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing world-class customer service to internal and external customers.
- Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and workplace terminology.

Required Skills:

Experience with Oracle HCM or similar system strongly preferred.
Certificates and Licenses:
SHRM-CP or SPHR desired.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of experience and education required.
Physical Demands:
- Requires the ability to maneuver in confined and at times congested areas.
- Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, & bend for 8 hours a day.
Travel
- Must be able to travel domestically, <10% on average.
