WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:
The National Headquarters of the American Red Cross is looking for law students interested in volunteering as legal interns for 40 hours per week during the summer break either virtually or in our downtown Washington, D.C. office at 431 18th St Street, N.W. The internship period will be late May - early August Red. Cross hires passionate students who possess the intelligence, skill, self-confidence, and maturity to take on significant responsibility. In exchange for their hard work, our interns enjoy an active role in the legal department of one of the world's largest non-profit organizations. Over the course of a summer, an intern will generally work with lawyers in several different practice areas and amass experience that he/she could not obtain anywhere else.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD:
Position will entail assisting staff attorneys with issues involving compliance, general business law and Red Cross lines of service. The legal intern will be expected to be an integral part of project management in the Office of the General Counsel including working with clients to identify risk and legal issues and drafting memoranda and business documents. Projects may include drafting pleadings and contracts, researching regulatory issues, preparing legal analyses, assisting with trademark enforcement, working on real estate closings, administering trust and estate distributions, and other types of transactions. Position has great potential for the right candidate.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
Prefer a 2L or 3L but all law students will be considered; have excellent analytical and writing skills; ability to conduct online legal and business research; strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Westlaw/LexisNexis; ability to communicate effectively and handle multiple tasks. Attention to detail and ability to create solutions is a significant plus.
