Summary / Objective The Director of International Admissions provides leadership and is responsible for the development and execution of the strategic enrollment plan for international students and drives achievement of the university’s international student undergraduate enrollment goals while exhibiting professionalism, compliance and ethics, accuracy, and passion for higher education. The Director of International Admissions is responsible for managing enrollment targets through effective recruitment strategy, application generation, decision-modeling, application and process management, communication strategies, customer service management, on-campus visit programs, yield strategy development and implementation. The Director of International Admissions develops and maintains relationships with academic, administrative, and enrollment management partners while serving as a member of the admissions division senior staff. The Director of International Admissions ensures that the philosophy and values of American University are clearly communicated to prospective international students while demonstrating deep academic program knowledge.In close collaboration with the AVP of Admissions, this position is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the overall recruitment, marketing and communication strategies to reach and attract prospective degree-seeking international students in accordance with university goals. This includes supervising the staff within the International Admissions unit, overseeing the evaluation and selection process for international undergraduate applicants seeking admission to the university and coordinating international recruitment and outreach initiatives with partner organizations, including Shorelight. This position also serves as a resource to the other university offices with regard to international admission counseling for international students, their families, and counseling personnel external to the university. Plan Plans, develops, implements and analyzes the overall recruitment strategies and admissions activities necessary to attract a broad and diverse group of international degree seeking undergraduate students. In consultation with the vice president for enrollment management, and the AVP of Admissions develops a strategic recruitment and marketing plan that will achieve set international enrollment goals. Provides leadership and creativity to international admissions staff and academic units in implementing all international recruitment strategies. Prepare requisite recruitment materials, analyses, reports and recommendations to university management regarding international admissions activities and results. Manages the Shorelight partnership and all external partnerships that American University develops as part of the international enrollment strategy. This includes providing oversight of the partnership, developing training material and training plan, application and process management and coordinating recruitment activity. Monitors regular reports to ensure progress against goals and staff performance metrics. Supervise & Train Responsible for evaluation of international undergraduate applicant credentials and admit decisions. In conjunction with international admissions staff provides oversight of international application management including evaluating and making decisions on international undergraduate degree-seeking applicants and leading the team trainings related to international application review. Monitors the progress of undergraduate applicants during the evaluation period and provides necessary interventions and support, as needed, to ensure successful completion of the application process. Oversee the scholars and scholarship programs geared towards attracting, converting and diversifying the international student population at American University. Supervise, train, develop, and mentor one Associate Director and two Assistant Directors. Communication Establishes and cultivates essential contacts and connections with key government agencies, embassy officials, scholars and organizations. In concert with university development office and other university officials, develops a plan to engage international alumni and international partner schools to facilitate international recruiting efforts and the enrollment of admitted international candidates. Create and implement a plan for engaging key influencers such as guidance / college counselors, school officials and parents for the international audience. Implement Work with other university offices, especially International Student and Scholar Services, Washington Semester, and AU Abroad / Abroad at AU, to develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs specifically targeted and relevant to international students. Provide high-level oversight of the AU Diplomats, who operate under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of International Admissions. Supervisory Responsibility :

The Director must have an understanding of international higher education; possess excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong presentation, oral and written communication skills; have excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to effectively plan; be able to prioritize work and manage projects skillfully.
