Friends of Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens (FoKAG) is a nonprofit dedicated to protecting and promoting the only national park dedicated to water-loving plants. We connect people of all ages and backgrounds to nature through conservation, education, and community engagement. As the changes in the environment impacts our park’s fragile ecosystems, we are expanding our efforts to promote environmental stewardship and deepen connections with local communities. We are seeking an enthusiastic AmeriCorps VISTA member to serve as a Programs & Events Coordinator to engage more visitors, enhance educational programming, and strengthen our outreach efforts. This position will play a vital role in supporting the Come Alive After 5 initiative, which extends park hours during peak seasons to create a welcoming and safe space for families, youth, and seniors. Through this service opportunity, you will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit management, community outreach, and environmental education while making a lasting impact on one of D.C.’s hidden gems. Member Duties : The Friends of Kenilworth VISTA Programs & Events Coordinator will: - Plan coordinate and promote the establishment of educational programs and events. Coordinate extended park hours during peak seasons as part of Come Alive After 5. Create and implement volunteer engagement and community outreach. Develop partnerships with local organizations to expand our reach. Learn and coordinate general operations, including communications and visitor engagement. Evaluate overall program impact and recommend improvements. This role is an opportunity to grow leadership skills while making a tangible difference in urban conservation and public engagement. Through targeted programming, the VISTA will move individuals and communities out of poverty by Providing Pathways to Education and Employment Through outreach, partnership building, and the creation of sustainable programming, the VISTA will break down barriers to access and open doors to opportunity for underserved communities.
