Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Plant Nursery Supervisor to oversee daily operations at our plant, mulch and soil nursery. The ideal candidate will have prior supervisory experience, a strong understanding of plant care, soil and mulch products, and an unwavering commitment to safety. As the Nursery Supervisor, you will lead a team to ensure that nursery operations run smoothly, plants are cared for, and all safety protocols are followed.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management:

• Supervise a team of nursery employees, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure productivity and safety.
• Lead by example with a focus on teamwork, customer service, and professionalism.
• Assign daily tasks and responsibilities to staff and ensure they are completed efficiently and to standard.
• Monitor and assess employee performance, providing feedback and encouraging continuous improvement.

Safety First:

• Promote a safety-first culture by ensuring all safety procedures and protocols are followed by team members at all times.
• Conduct regular safety briefings and training, addressing hazards and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Monitor workplace for potential hazards, taking proactive steps to mitigate risks.
• Ensure all employees are equipped with the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and that it is used properly.

Nursery Operations:

• Oversee the care and maintenance of plants, soil, and mulch products, ensuring high-quality standards are met.
• Manage inventory of mulch, soil, plants, and other nursery supplies, ensuring timely restocking and optimal stock levels.

Customer Service & Communication:

• Provide excellent customer service by answering inquiries, assisting with product selection, and resolving any customer concerns.
• Maintain effective communication with upper management and other departments to ensure alignment of goals and objectives.

Administrative Tasks:

• Maintain accurate records of inventory, employee hours, safety checks, and any incidents or accidents.
• Help with scheduling staff shifts and ensuring optimal staffing levels during peak seasons.

Qualifications:

Experience:

• role within a plant nursery, or landscaping environment.
• Knowledge of mulch, soil types, plant care, and related nursery operations is essential.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong commitment to workplace safety and the ability to enforce safety protocols.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to handle physical work in outdoor environments, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to work in varied weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, etc.).
• Familiarity with inventory management systems and basic administrative tasks.
• Ability to motivate and support a team in achieving goals and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certifications in horticulture, agriculture, or a related field suggested.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
Ability to stand, bend, and walk for extended periods.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Work Environment:

The position is based at the plant nursery, which includes both indoor and outdoor settings. Employees are expected to work in an environment that involves heavy equipment, plant maintenance, and exposure to various elements of the weather.

Personal Protective Equipment:

The employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, and a safety vest.
