Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Graduate Associate in Music position (3 openings). The Graduate Associate in Music is a full-time, fixed-term (academic year) position, starting at $19.72 per hour. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
The Graduate Associate (GA) position in the Music Department is designed to support the department's educational mission in two ways: 1) through the teaching and learning of a diverse group of undergraduate students in musicianship and ensemble courses; and 2) through the development, for the GA, of professional skill sets in various areas of music education and industry.
Summary of Responsibilities:
The GA is assigned responsibilities across a range of types of work matched with their experience and interests and the needs of the department. These include:
- Aural skills instruction and curriculum development
- Support for ensemble courses (choirs, jazz ensembles, orchestra, chamber ensembles)
- Stage management and production
- Arts communications (editorial and media work, publicity, social media, website work)
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor of Arts in Music or equivalent training
- Cultural competency and ability to work in a diverse environment
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Successful completion of all required reference and background checks
