Two-way immersion develops high levels of academic achievement, bilingualism, and cultural competencies among students and contributes to the long-term preparation of students for the global economy. The Role:
The Family Liaison reports to and is supervised by the school principal and collaborates with the Welcoming Schools Coordinator on district initiatives. This position coordinates family engagement efforts to support student academic achievement and promotes equity and access for all children and families.
In this role, the Family Liaison is responsible for:
- Fostering a welcoming school climate for all families
- Greeting students and families at arrival and dismissal
- Providing targeted support to individual families, connecting them to and helping them navigate community agencies and resources
- Enhancing student achievement by promoting parent education and family empowerment.
- Working with parent groups to plan community-wide events
- Supporting effective communication between the school, the district, the community, and families
- Building relationships with students, families, and staff
- Creating a flexible visiting schedule that is family-friendly for prospective parents and hosting tours
- Supporting the enrollment and transition of Kindergarten students
- Supporting the transition of students as they “move up” to the next level
- The Family Liaison contributes to district-wide family engagement initiatives, participates in district professional development, and uses district data management and communication tools. The Family Liaison will also assume other responsibilities to meet community needs, as identified by the school principal.

Your Skill Set:
The successful candidate for the position will have an excellent ability to relate and work with people from a variety of racial, cultural, social economic, and linguistic backgrounds. Skills will include: compassion; collaboration; leadership; effective communication (both oral and written) organizational skills; and strong interpersonal skills in dealing with parents, staff, and members of the community at large. The successful candidate will have experience in planning and organizing community events, and fostering and managing volunteer participation. The candidate should possess strong technology skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) as well as strong web-based skills. Experience with social media is a plus. Fluency in Spanish is required. Knowledge of the Cambridge Public Schools is preferred.
The candidate may have either a college degree or comparable experience in community outreach and parent education. The position requires participation and attendance in all meetings, workshops, and trainings, and some contact with families in the evening and outside of the regular school day.
