Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:
AMSC is looking for a skilled electrical/electronics engineer with a background in electronic controls in applications to electric power systems. In this career opportunity you will become an expert on AMSC grid products. You will use these skills to interface directly with sales, field service, manufacturing, and engineering departments to ensure current and future grid products meet the required safety, functional and performance requirements.
Functions:
- Participate in new product development and existing product maintenance/enhancement projects.
- Select control and related components, design, and validate circuit performance.
- Document designs and create BOMs.
- Review grid product interface (SCADA, HMI, local control stations, etc.) requirements and then design/develop these interfaces to meet project requirements and ensure high quality and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and review product documentation including items such as O&M manuals, interface documents, and connection diagrams.
- Support field service for detailed product interface, performance, or functionality questions and issues as required.
- Perform and coordinate failure analysis and recommend corrective actions.
- Take the engineering lead in UL, CSA, and CE certification for new D-VAR products.
- Create and maintain product matrix of compliance for existing and new DVAR products toward UL 1741 (SB), IEC 61727, IEC 62116, IEC 62109-1, IEC 62109-2, IEC 62477, IEC 61000-6-2, IEC 61000-6-4, and other standards applicable to AMSC’s global market.
- Support D-VAR project applications through technical design with D-VAR applications engineers and project managers.
- Domestic and international travel up to 20%.
Education – Experience:
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering with strong experience in the application of distributed energy resources (wind and PV) to the power system.
- 5-7 years of experience in role of Systems Engineer for a technical product.
- Experience in product certification and standards compliance.
- Experience with structured technical product design process to ensure high quality products which meet required functionality.
Required Skills, Competencies, Authorities and Training Needs:
- US citizenship or permanent resident. Ability to travel internationally.
- Strong ability to collaborate with stakeholders to solve complex problems.
- Demonstrates high level understanding of all aspects of a technical product including hardware, controls, and interfaces.
- Experience in electric utility power system operation desired.
- Ability to analyze and correctly interpret electrical drawings.
- Experience in product certification and standards compliance desired.
- Demonstrate proficiency in technical writing, oral, listening, and presentation skills.
- Driven to continuously improve product artifacts (documentation, interfaces, configurations, etc.) to improve product knowledge, support, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to accurately estimate time required to complete tasks and projects.
- Excellent computer skills are essential (AutoCAD Electrical, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Basic knowledge of control system interfaces including SCADA, HMI, and PC interface programs
- Preferred experience with power quality products for utility, industrial, or renewable energy market
- Preferred experience analyzing and solving product technical problems.
