SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Responsible for maintenance and servicing of Amtrak's locomotives and facilities in accordance with FRA, FDA, and Amtrak standards
and guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs services on locomotives and equipment such as sanding, cleaning, washing and scraping, empties waste retention systems, trash receptacles and properly disposes of hazardous waste material in accordance with FDA/Amtrak standards and guidelines, performs shop maintenance and functions as motor equipment operator (see MEO positions)
  • Uses and operates light cranes, tractors, forklifts, and similar equipment
  • Maintain shop/yard cleanliness, maintains proper care and use of materials, equipment, machines and hand tools normally associated with assigned job
  • Other duties as assigned.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Applicant must be able to perform the job duties and maintain current certifications for the job he/she is bidding
  • Work within the guidelines of the System Safety Program
  • Keep a clean and safe work area. Return company tools and materials
  • Work in and promote a teamwork environment in order to achieve a quality product
  • Adhere to Amtrak's Standard of Excellence Policy
  • Positions designated as "Hours of Service" require the applicant to produce a negative Federal pre-employment drug test prior to performing the job.
  • These jobs are subject to Federal random and reasonable suspicion testing.



COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.


The hourly rate is $26.18 - $30.80 (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment). If an applicant/employee refuses to provide written consent for Amtrak to obtain these records, the individual will not be permitted to perform safety-sensitive functions.


In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.S.C. §1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
