What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator, Professional Scouting position at Angels Baseball L.P.?

Purpose

Reporting to the Director, Pro Scouting, the Coordinator will primarily support the day-to-day operations of the Professional Scouting Department.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support with developing, implementing and executing department strategies and goals
  • Coordinate in-season scheduling for professional scouting staff, including special assignments, league coverage and organization coverage
  • Develop and distribute in-season target lists for Trade Deadline, September call-ups, Major and Minor League Free Agency and Rule 5 Draft
  • Monitor daily roster moves for all Major League teams and manage internal depth charts
  • Evaluate potential waiver claims, including trade waivers, throughout the season and provide claim recommendations to front office personnel
  • Help coordinate Pacific Rim travel, scheduling and target lists for staff with assigned coverage
  • Gather and distribute recommendations from professional scouts on potential trade acquisitions, Major and Minor League free agent signings and Rule 5 draft picks
  • Perform scouting coverage throughout season, as assigned, including Spring Training, Regular Season, Futures Game, Minor League All Star Games, Arizona Fall League and Instructional League
  • Manage the preparation and execution for full-staff meetings
  • Proactively seek new and improved methods of collecting, analyzing and distributing information throughout front office
  • Establish and maintain relationships throughout the organization’s departments as needs arise throughout the calendar year

Experiences and Job Requirements:

  • Passion for baseball and excellent reasoning, problem-solving, creative thinking, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully meet deadlines and be proactive about project management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals including members of the front office, scouts, and field staff.
  • Ability to work evening, weekend and holiday hours.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
  • Strong understanding of current baseball research.
  • 1 - 2 years of related work experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency with SQL, Python, or R is preferred.
  • Experience and/or strong knowledge of the Pacific Rim professional baseball market is preferred

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to traverse office and stadium frequently
  • Ability to work in inclement weather (when in stadium)
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally
