An experienced Procurement Specialist to manage the purchasing and sourcing of materials, including steel and other essential supplies, for our machine shop. The ideal candidate will be familiar with RFQs (Request for Quotations), vendor management, and coordinating with outside service providers. This role is critical in ensuring that all necessary materials and services are available to support production operations while maintaining cost efficiency and supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- RFQ Management:Prepare and issue RFQs for steel, materials, and other machine shop requirements. Review bids, negotiate pricing, and select vendors based on quality, price, and delivery terms.
- Material Sourcing:Source and procure raw materials such as steel, aluminum, and other metals, ensuring optimal quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Vendor Management:Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts and monitoring performance to ensure timely deliveries and competitive pricing.
- Inventory Management:Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and supplies, ensuring that production needs are met without overstocking.
- Coordination with Outside Services:Manage relationships with outside service providers for processes like heat treating, coatings, machining, and other outsourced services.
- Order Tracking & Follow-Up:Track and expedite orders to ensure timely delivery, addressing any delays or issues with suppliers.
- Cost Analysis:Conduct cost analysis and market research to ensure competitive pricing and availability of materials.
- Negotiating Terms:Negotiate payment terms, delivery schedules, and other contractual conditions to ensure the best possible outcomes for the company.
- Quality Assurance:Collaborate with Quality Assurance teams to ensure that sourced materials meet required standards and specifications.
- Budget Management:Work within departmental budgets to ensure procurement activities align with cost control measures.
- Documentation:Maintain accurate records of procurement activities, contracts, and supplier performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience in procurement, preferably in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with steel and metal sourcing, including knowledge of industry standards and pricing trends.
- Experience with RFQs, supplier negotiations, and contract management.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Preferred:
- Experience working with outside service providers such as heat treating, coatings, and specialized machining.
- Strong understanding of inventory management principles and cost analysis.
