Overview
The Business Controller role is a hands-on position accountable for managing daily accounting transactions and overseeing the domestic accounting department. Reporting to the Global Controller, this position is responsible for the timely preparation and distribution of the organization’s domestic financial statements and management reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”) and for establishing, maintaining, and improving domestic financial controls. The Business Controller will manage the members of Anova’s domestic Accounting department.
Responsibilities
- General Accounting
- Oversee all domestic accounting operations (e.g., AR/collections, AP, inventory, fixed assets, leases, payroll, revenue recognition, tax filings, transfer pricing)
- Oversee treasury and cash application
- Manage all aspects of the domestic general ledger including account reconciliations and variance identification and investigation
- Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and consolidate monthly financial statements and analysis for domestic entities
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes led by FP&A partners with a focus on balance sheet and cash flow forecasts and management
- Prepare domestic management reports and analysis to help measure business performance against budgets/forecasts and operational effectiveness via KPIs
- Internal Controls
- Establish and maintain documentation of accounting policies and standard operating procedures
- Administer and govern ERP roles/security, finance master data (e.g., chart of accounts/general ledger mappings, customer and vendor info), and other internal controls such as customer and employee credit limits
- Perform and lead special projects (e.g., ERP improvements, quote-to-cash process improvements) by driving results through cross-functional teams
- Audit Oversight & Readiness
- Lead domestic aspects of financial audits and liaise with external auditors
- Perform internal audit sampling to ensure audit preparedness and recommend and implement process improvements across finance disciplines
- Talent Management
- Mentor and develop a high-performing, collaborative team
Qualifications
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
- CPA required
- MBA or Master’s in Accounting considered a plus
- Experience
- 10 years of relevant experience including technical accounting, audit support, financial controls, and international operations, etc.
- Exposure to SaaS and HaaS/XaaS models preferred
- 3 years of experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Supervisor
- S. GAAP accounting knowledge required
- Financial accounting systems experience (e.g., Epicor, Macola, QuickBooks) required, and ERP implementation experience preferred
- Mix of work experience in public accounting and private industry preferred
- Skills
- Proven team leader with supervision and staff developing experience
- Exceptional relationship management and collaboration with Finance team and other organizational units
- Effective verbal and written communication across organizational units, various levels of management, and external customers and partners
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Detail-oriented with focus on financial data integrity
- Advanced PC skills (e.g., Excel, reporting tools like Power BI)
- Self-motivation and proficient project and time management
