What are the responsibilities and job description for the Thermal Modeling Engineer position at Antora Energy?
Job Title: Heat-to-Power R&D Engineer
We are a team of innovators at Antora Energy, dedicated to stopping climate change by unlocking zero-emissions industrial energy, cheaper than fossil fuels.
Summary:
As a member of our Heat-to-Power R&D team, you will be responsible for developing novel heat-to-power discharge units for our combined heat and power (CHP) long-duration energy storage product. This role involves conducting thermal and mechanical analyses, including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). You will collaborate with mechanical design and test engineers to establish thermal and system requirements, inform component selection, and help make the right tradeoffs for manufacturability.
About the Role:
- Conduct thermal and mechanical analyses, including CFD, CHT, and FEA.
- Develop robust heat transfer models to quantify performance of novel heat-engine and combined heat and power product for various geometries, considering thermo-mechanical stress, conduction, radiation, and convection.
- Collaborate with mechanical design and test engineers to establish thermal and system requirements, inform component selection, and help make the right tradeoffs for manufacturability.
- Support the development and execution of test plans at both bench and full scale, to validate models.
- Define and maintain thermal requirements for components and systems, and contribute to cost and performance roadmaps.
- Develop and maintain internal design practices and documentation.
- Assist with material selection, detailed mechanical design, prototyping and testing.
- Mentoring junior engineers, sharing thermal intuition and design approaches.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in thermal engineering, with 3 years of that with focus on CFD and thermal FEA modeling.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, CFD, transport phenomena, and thermodynamics fundamentals.
- Experience working collaboratively in teams that built first-of-a-kind hardware systems.
- Ability to work both independently and closely in teams, as required.
- Proficiency in data analysis and presentation.
- High level of proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD), preferably SolidWorks.
- Expert-level proficiency in thermal modeling packages, preferably Ansys.
- Attention to detail with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, or equivalent.
- Experience with modeling systems with combined heat-transfer modes (conduction, convection, radiation).
- Experience with modeling of equipment for high-temperature (> 500 C) environments.
- Willingness to stretch into different roles in the team as needed, including mechanical design, material evaluation, prototyping and testing.
What We Offer:
A competitive base salary of $$133,000 - $173,000 USD per year, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, 401K plan, flexible spending account, paid time off, and more.
Location: Sunnyvale, CA
Type: Full-time
Salary : $133,000 - $173,000
