Director of Deposit Operations
Job Overview
The Director of Deposit Operations is responsible for supervising and performing daily activities in the Deposit Operations and Digital Banking Department. This role requires a blend of technical know-how, leadership skills, and a forward-thinking approach to ensure smooth and efficient banking operations. The manager builds and fosters a team of leaders capable of assuming increased responsibilities to support the bank during future growth and succession planning.
Responsibilities
· Oversee a team performing Deposit Operations functions, including Incoming Cash Letter, exception items, ACH Origination/Receiving, Wire Transfers, Debit Card and ACH Disputes, account review and maintenance, deposit documentation, GL reconciliation, Digital Banking tasks, and end-of-day processing.
· Implement updates and changes to the Bank’s core system (FIS/BancPac).
· Handle user setups, terminations, and password resets for the core banking system and auxiliary systems.
· Serve as the primary interface to the Bank’s core and electronic banking service providers to resolve issues.
· Identify process gaps, make recommendations, and implement department changes to streamline processes and reduce expenses/losses.
· Review published branch operational procedures to ensure clarity and accuracy that complements departmental procedures.
· Ensure continuity of daily processes and procedures by assisting team members or providing backup assistance during heavy work cycles.
· Ensure compliance with FDICIA, audit, and payment network requirements, including NACHA, Reg E, and BSA/AML requirements.
· Act as a resource and subject-matter expert for management and staff regarding department processes, procedures, and systems related to ACH payments and Check 21 Services. Research and resolve escalated processing issues.
· Perform and oversee GL and account reconciliation.
· Monitor ACH Origination, including working with management on new originator relationships and agreements, annual review and renewals with existing ACH Originators, monitoring of Originator limits, and reporting to management and Board of Directors as required.
· Manage or assist with special projects as assigned.
Job Requirements
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance desired, or a combination of education and work-related experience.
· 5-10 years of banking deposit operations experience required, with strong knowledge of core deposit systems, digital and online banking products, payment systems (ACH, card, check, wire), operations risk management, and regulatory requirements.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with management and peers across multiple departments.
· Strong time management and organizational skills; ability to multi-task and switch between functions and processes with ease.
· ACH Accredited Professional (AAP) preferred.
