The Assistant Director of Operations and Outreach (ADOO) plays a pivotal role in assisting the Executive Director in providing leadership and operational oversight for The Arc of the Central Mountains. This position involves managerial, supervisory, and community outreach responsibilities, ensuring the organization fulfills its mission. The ADOO focuses on five key areas: Communications, Community Outreach, Systems Advocacy, Direct Client Advocacy, and Program Development & Administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications
- Oversee the publicizing of The Arc of the Central Mountains’ activities, programs, and goals.
- Build and maintain cooperative relationships with community groups and organizations.
- Represent the organization’s programs and values to agencies, organizations, and the public.
- Collaborate with public officials, community associations, and media to increase awareness of The Arc’s mission.
- Ensure effective communication with stakeholders, including volunteers, staff, board members, program participants, and the broader community.
- Develop a robust outreach program to engage all community stakeholders.
Systems Advocacy:
- Stay informed on legislative issues and public policies affecting individuals with I/DD and their families.
- Represent The Arc of the Central Mountains at public meetings, policy briefings, and educational sessions.
- Collaborate with The Arc of Colorado and other state chapters to strengthen collective advocacy efforts.
- Maintain a strong relationship with The Arc’s national office to advocate for impactful policy changes at the federal level.
Direct Advocacy for Community Stakeholders:
- Advocate for the rights and interests of individuals with I/DD and their families in securing necessary services and supports.
- Monitor the quality of supports and services for individuals with I/DD in Garfield, Eagle, Pitkin, and Lake counties.
- Maintain organized and secure client filing systems.
Program Development & Administration:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a long-term strategic plan aligned with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors and staff to develop financial, programmatic, and organizational plans.
- Promote active volunteer participation in The Arc’s programs where appropriate.
- Develop and maintain a robust outreach program to support community stakeholders.
- Stay informed on developments and trends in the field of I/DD advocacy.
- Cultivate effective relationships with public officials, agency administrators, businesses, and other stakeholders involved in services for individuals with I/DD.
- Provide leadership and support to staff in developing and evaluating The Arc’s programs.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and maintain official organizational records.
Required Qualifications:
- Proven leadership and management experience in non-profit, advocacy, or related fields.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of public policies and services related to intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Ability to oversee multiple projects and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with strategic planning and program development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in the nonprofit sector.
- Knowledge of the disability community and its unique needs.
- Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to inspire and guide teams.
- Experience with a collaborative approach to advocacy.
- Effective communication skills for engaging with families, schools, and community partners.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English preferred).
