A project superintendent manages construction sites, including all personnel, equipment, materials, safety, and the schedule. They are responsible for ensuring that the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

  • Customer Service: Regularly communicate with customers regarding project status and throughout the project life cycle. 
  • SafetyEnsure that all workers are certified, equipped, and follow safety protocols. This includes implementing and enforcing safety procedures to comply with local, state, and federal regulations. 
  • Quality assuranceConduct inspections, review workmanship, and address any deficiencies to ensure the project meets quality standards. 
  • Workforce managementAssign tasks, monitor performance, and address issues or conflicts that arise. 
  • SubcontractorsSchedule subcontractors, consultants, and vendors, and ensure they complete their work on time. 
  • CommunicationCommunicate with senior management about timelines and budgets. Advise senior management of potential problems, work interferences, or schedule difficulties. 
  • Quality controlEstablish and enforce job site quality control programs. 
  • Project progressAttend project progress meetings when possible. 
  • ApprovalsCoordinate approvals with inspection authorities. 

Project superintendents typically have a bachelor's degree in construction management, building science, engineering, or a related field, and a significant amount of experience in the construction industry.
