JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Intake Specialist is the entry way for patients and referral sources for evaluation and admissions. The Intake Specialist provides telephonic and in-person assessment. The specialist drives the initial contact with referral sources and potential patients, coordinates the referral and admissions process, determines appropriate level of care utilizing the ASAM. The Intake Specialist is responsible for providing a complete initial clinical picture of the client to include the full psychosocial and treatment plan. The Intake Specialist utilized best proactive assessment tool to include a risk assessment, Socrates, and trauma checklist.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate knowledge and skill in provision of services to various populations including children, adolescents, adults, older adults and dually diagnosed patients in an inpatient and partial hospital setting.
Education: Bachelors Degree in a social service-related field preferred.
Experience: Prior intake, assessment, admission and crisis intervention experience with a substance use and mental health population, preferably in a residential setting preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- The ability to complete the risk assessment, possible in crisis situations, in a time effective manner ensuring all components are completed. This requires strong assessment skills and the ability to keep psychiatric patients on track and focused on the assessment process.
- Demonstrates knowledge of major diagnostic criteria for adults as described in DSM V.
- Has knowledge of the substance use disorders and treatment options.
- Utilizes resources in determining alternative levels of care specific to the needs of the patient.
- Demonstrates the knowledge of the community mental health providers, insurance verification and prior authorization processes.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the sense of urgency to respond to referral inquiries in a timely fashion and completing the admissions acceptance in a timely manner.
