Development Manager Job Description

Arts New Orleans seeks a full-time staff member with strong experience in and passion for fundraising and development. The Development Manager is responsible for managing Arts New Orleans’ (ACNO) donor database and management system and providing support for events, campaigns and appeals, ACNO’s membership program and more. The Development Manager will report to, and collaborate with, the Development Director to advance ACNO’s goals and support agency fundraising.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized and detail oriented with a critical degree of accuracy regarding data entry. In addition to managing the database, the Development Manager will be responsible for drafting donor correspondence, including acknowledgement records. This role will spend approximately 30% of time on the development and execution of events and will require attendance at some evening and/or weekend meetings, or events.

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of development experience with a proven track record of successfully meeting goals
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal) for internal purposes and with partners
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage timelines and deliverables for multiple projects simultaneously
  • A self-starter and goal-driven
  • Possess a collaborative spirit, a flexible attitude, and a sense of humor
  • Extremely thorough, organized and detail-oriented
  • Experience working with donor management software is required

Job Responsibilities

Development Support

  • Work closely with the Development Director to coordinate cultivation and stewardship outreach and activities for donors and members.
  • Assist with active campaigns and appeals, including Arts New Orleans’ 50th anniversary campaign.
  • Work collaboratively with the Development Director and Marketing Director to produce mission-focused marketing content that drives philanthropic giving.
  • Assist with grant writing and reporting as needed.
  • Support the development and execution of events, including VIP experiences for LUNA Fête festival of light, art and technology, 50th Anniversary programs and events, and public art unveilings.
  • Serve as the point of contact for Arts New Orleans’ Sustaining Membership Program.
  • Assist with identification and qualification of current donors and prospects.
  • Attend, and provide support for, Development Committee meetings and other meetings as needed.

Gift Entry and Reporting

  • Ensure all donations and grant awards are entered into Network for Good in a timely, accurate and comprehensive manner.
  • Generate accurate, consistent and timely acknowledgement letters and tax receipts.
  • Produce accurate queries, exports, reports, and lists for mailings, newsletters and event invitations.
  • Collaborate with ACNO accountant and Development Director to ensure accurate month-end and year-end reconciliation between QuickBooks and Network for Good.
  • Archive and help evaluate past campaigns and appeals.

Database Maintenance

  • Maintain Network for Good donor database in a manner that ensures the integrity of the data and maximizes fundraising success, including updating duplicates, deceased or inactive constituents, bad addresses and donor solicitation preferences.
  • Assess and update database processes and procedures for donor database. Train other staff as needed.

Salary & Benefits

  • This is a full-time employee position (40 hours/week)
  • Starting salary range is $55,000 – $60,000, commensurate with experience and other qualifications
  • Arts New Orleans pays 100% of team members’ health insurance
  • 403(b) retirement plan through Mutual of America, with Arts New Orleans matching 2% of your total salary

How We Work

Our team primarily works remotely, although we have a studio where team members often work and staff meetings are held. This job requires attendance at some evening and/or weekend meetings, events or workshops. Arts New Orleans is involved in numerous community activations, including monthly art markets, openings at our Salon Gallery, and public art unveilings. Additionally, team members regularly attend performances, gallery openings, art festivals, and other cultural activities!
