Job Summary:
The Trucking Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the transportation of goods via trucks to various locations. This position ensures timely deliveries, manages fleet operations, maintains accurate records, and adheres to safety and regulatory requirements. Depending on the company and role, responsibilities may vary between administrative logistics or driving duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transport Coordination: Plan and coordinate the scheduling of deliveries, ensuring all shipments are made in a timely manner and in line with customer expectations.
- Route Planning: Optimize delivery routes to reduce time and costs, ensuring fuel efficiency and adherence to company standards.
- Fleet Management: Oversee truck maintenance schedules, perform routine checks, and ensure all vehicles are compliant with safety and regulatory standards.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate records, including delivery logs, invoices, and cargo manifests. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations for transportation.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including proper loading, unloading, and securing of cargo. Adhere to Department of Transportation (DOT) and other industry safety regulations.
- Customer Interaction: Communicate with customers regarding delivery times, status, and issues, ensuring high levels of customer service.
- Inventory Management: Track shipments and assist with inventory management, reporting any discrepancies or damages.
- Problem-Solving: Address unexpected delays, breakdowns, or issues during transport, including rerouting or finding solutions in real-time.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications or college coursework in logistics, supply chain, or transportation management is a plus.
- Experience: Prior experience in logistics, truck driving, or transportation coordination is preferred.
- Licensing: A valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is required for drivers. For logistics coordinators, familiarity with logistics software and industry regulations is important.
