Certified Peer Support Specialist

Job Summary
The Certified Peer Specialist plays a vital role in supporting individuals navigating their mental health and substance use challenges. This position involves leveraging personal lived experience to provide guidance, encouragement, and support to peers. The Certified Peer Specialist will work collaboratively with clients to promote recovery, enhance coping strategies, and foster independence while advocating for their needs within the behavioral health system.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one support to individuals in recovery, offering guidance based on personal experiences.
• Facilitate group sessions focused on recovery strategies, coping mechanisms, and life skills.
• Assist clients in developing personalized recovery plans that align with their goals.
• Utilize crisis intervention techniques to support individuals during critical moments.
• Collaborate with mental health professionals to ensure comprehensive care and support for clients.
• Engage in motivational interviewing to help clients identify their strengths and challenges.
• Mentor peers by sharing insights and strategies that promote resilience and self-advocacy.
• Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and progress within the behavioral health system.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills related to addiction counseling and crisis management.

Skills

• Strong understanding of crisis intervention techniques and the ability to apply them effectively.
• Experience or knowledge in social work principles and practices related to mental health counseling.
• Proficiency in motivational interviewing methods that encourage client engagement and empowerment.
• Familiarity with behavioral health systems and resources available for individuals in recovery.
• Skills in addiction counseling, including understanding the complexities of substance use disorders.
• Ability to manage crises effectively while providing compassionate support to clients.
• Excellent mentoring skills that foster positive relationships with peers seeking recovery.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling effective collaboration with clients and professionals alike.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
• Morning shift
• Weekends as needed
