Job Description Summary
The A-B Tech Adult Basic Education SOAR program, which stands for Successful Occupational Achievement Readiness, is a two-year integrated literacy project based vocational training program for adult learners seventeen or over with developmental disabilities. Instructors teach reading, writing, math, and critical thinking skills directly related to vocation areas. Class size is limited to ten students, attendance is mandatory, and students must adhere to the Classroom Code of Behavior.
Duties
1. Teach math, language arts, reading, writing, technology, and career skills development to a small class of no more than ten students.
2. Create contextualized lesson plans aligned to NC State Community College Content Standards.
3. Complete required Adult Basic Education Transitional Studies paperwork.
4. Use technology programs such as emailing, finding basic websites, and entering attendance online.
5. Utilize classroom technology to enhance student learning.
6. Keep accurate and precise attendance records.
7. Support overall needs of students related to enrollment, persistence, and completion.
8. Participate in departmental, college, and state professional development opportunities as they arise.
Minimum Requirements
- 1. Bachelor's degree;
- 2. Teaching experience in one or more of the following subjects : math, language arts, reading, technology, and / or careers;
3. Experience with Microsoft Office software.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience teaching elementary, middle school, high school, special education, literacy, or career teachers.
2. Experience teaching math, reading, and / or language arts and can demonstrate experience with the use of Microsoft Office software.
3. Experience working with technology in the classroom, including SMART Boards, iPads, computers, and interactive PowerPoint presentations.
